Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental contaminant and can be detected in foodstuffs. Hence, investigating BPA metabolism in humans is crucial because certain BPA metabolites may exhibit similar or even greater be toxicity than does the parent compound. In this study, we used an advanced metabolomics-based data processing approach along with ultraperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) to identify BPA metabolites in human liver enzyme incubation samples, and those metabolites were further detected in human excreta and water body samples in Taiwan.

A novel unprecedented triphenylphosphine-mediated [4 + 3] annulation reaction of 2-benzylidene indane-1,3-diones and -diynoates through initial phosphine α-addition was discovered and found to result in biologically interesting indeno[1,2-]oxepin-4-ylidenes in up to 75% yield. The seven-membered separable and isomeric oxepins were confirmed using single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Global climate change has led to a significant increase in temperature over the last century and has been associated with significant increases in the severity and frequency of heat injury (HI). The consequences of HI included dehydration and rhabdomyolysis, leading to acute kidney injury, which is now recognized as a clear risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD). We aimed to investigate the effects of HI on the risk of CKD.

Background: Acute water intoxication after hysteroscopy is a rare, life-threatening condition, often accompanied with delayed diagnosis owing to masked symptoms because of general anesthesia.

Case Presentation: Herein we presented a 39-year-old female who presented with cardiac arrest after hysteroscopic myomectomy because of acute water intoxication and survived after extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, continuous venous-venous hemofiltration, and aggressive high sodium fluid resuscitation.

Conclusion: Failure to recognize and treat this condition appropriately may lead to potentially lethal cardiopulmonary complications.

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between heat stroke and ischemic heart disease (IHD), in a nationwide population using a longitudinal approach. We retrospectively examined the data from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan, for patients examined between 2000 and 2013. In total, 628 patients with a heat stroke episode were enrolled and matched with 1256 patients without any history of a heat stroke episode by propensity score matching at a ratio of 1:2.

Object: Traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (TICH) patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) were reported to have a high mortality rate. Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is indicated for patients with a severe kidney injury. This study aimed to compare the effects of different RRT modalities regarding chronic dialysis rate among adult TICH patients with AKI.

Background: We evaluated the risk of osteoporosis in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) using a nationwide population-based dataset.

Methods: In a cohort study of 986,713 individuals, we selected 2,493 PBC patients who were aged 18 years or older and had been diagnosed with PBC, based on the International Classification of Disease (ICD-9-CM) codes 571.6, during 20002010.
