Epidural Anesthesia for Neuromyelitis Optica in Obstetrics: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO), also known as Devic disease, poses unique challenges in obstetrical anesthesia, with limited research available. This case report presents the anesthetic management of a 43-year-old gravida 2 para 1 (G2P1) woman with NMO undergoing labor induction at 39 weeks of gestation. Having received uneventful epidural labor analgesia in her first pregnancy, she faced the delicate decision of neuraxial anesthesia in light of her NMO diagnosis, which was made following her initial pregnancy.

We studied the diagnostic value of 16 slices of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) in the anatomical localization, image interpretation and extra-sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) detection compared to dynamic and static planar radioisotopic lymphoscintigraphy (PLS) in patients with melanoma. Eighty-two patients with melanoma underwent dynamic PLS, static PLS and SPECT/CT. Data were obtained using a dual head SPECT/CT 16 slices γ-camera.

This paper reports on a study that begins to address the paucity of research around the religious motivations of Muslim carers of family members with dementia. Seven carers were recruited for interviews from the British Pakistani Muslim community concentrated in the Midlands and North of England. Interview transcripts were analysed thematically using an iterative collaborative methodology.

Coagulation Disorders And Mortality In Burn Injury: A Systematic Review.

Even though coagulopathy is a familiar entity in trauma, its relationship to burn injury remains unclear. Literature appears inconsistent as to the conclusions of the use of coagulation assays, either routine methods or newer viscoelastic coagulation assays (VCAs), thromboelastography (TEG) and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), for prediction of patients' coagulation status and mortality. The use of diagnostic assays as mortality markers will be of great importance, since they would recognize at early stages patients with great medical demands and objectify burn injury severity.
