Search for electroweak production of supersymmetric particles in final states with two or three leptons at with the ATLAS detector.

A search for the electroweak production of charginos, neutralinos and sleptons decaying into final states involving two or three electrons or muons is presented. The analysis is based on 36.1 fb of  TeV proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider.

Search for Dark Matter Produced in Association with a Higgs Boson Decaying to bb[over ¯] Using 36 fb^{-1} of pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector.

Several extensions of the standard model predict associated production of dark-matter particles with a Higgs boson. Such processes are searched for in final states with missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying to a bb[over ¯] pair with the ATLAS detector using 36.1  fb^{-1} of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC.

Search for Heavy Higgs Bosons A/H Decaying to a Top Quark Pair in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector.

A search for heavy pseudoscalar (A) and scalar (H) Higgs bosons decaying into a top quark pair (tt[over ¯]) has been performed with 20.3  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=8  TeV. Interference effects between the signal process and standard model tt[over ¯] production, which are expected to distort the signal shape from a single peak to a peak-dip structure, are taken into account.

Measurement of multi-particle azimuthal correlations in pp, p + Pb and low-multiplicity Pb + Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector.

Multi-particle cumulants and corresponding Fourier harmonics are measured for azimuthal angle distributions of charged particles in [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] = 5.02 and 13 TeV and in [Formula: see text] + Pb collisions at [Formula: see text] = 5.02 TeV, and compared to the results obtained for low-multiplicity [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] = 2.

The relationship between F-FDG-PETCT-derived markers of tumour metabolism and systemic inflammation in patients with recurrent disease following surgery for colorectal cancer.

Aim: F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ( F-FDG-PETCT)-derived markers of tumour metabolism have been reported to have prognostic significance in a variety of tumours. Host inflammation is also recognized to have prognostic significance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between these markers and host systemic inflammation in patients undergoing elective surgery for colorectal cancer.

Testing the Actions of a Multi-action Emollient: Patient's Acceptability Determines Product Efficacy.

Aim: Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is associated with itch, sleep disturbance, impaired life quality, reduced skin hydration, impaired epidermal barrier function and colonization by Staphylococcus aureus (SA). We investigated an emollient with claimed multi-actions on barrier repair, antihistaminergic and antimicrobial effects.

Discharges from industrial cooling water systems can include low levels of morpholine (a chemical pH regulator and corrosion inhibitor), as well as transiently higher temperature effluent water which present a potential source of environmental impact to aquatic biota. The effects of environmental levels of morpholine or heat shock (HS) treatment alone and in combination with a challenge high-dose of Cs ionizing radiation were studied using the cytokinesis block micronucleus assay in a rainbow trout cell line (RTG-2). Morpholine treatment of 10 or 100mgL alone produced no significant effects, and no interaction was observed in combination with 7.

GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral.

On August 17, 2017 at 12∶41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.

Performance of the ATLAS track reconstruction algorithms in dense environments in LHC Run 2.

GW170814: A Three-Detector Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Coalescence.

On August 14, 2017 at 10∶30:43 UTC, the Advanced Virgo detector and the two Advanced LIGO detectors coherently observed a transient gravitational-wave signal produced by the coalescence of two stellar mass black holes, with a false-alarm rate of ≲1 in 27 000 years. The signal was observed with a three-detector network matched-filter signal-to-noise ratio of 18. The inferred masses of the initial black holes are 30.

Caspase-11-mediated endothelial pyroptosis underlies endotoxemia-induced lung injury.

Acute lung injury is a leading cause of death in bacterial sepsis due to the wholesale destruction of the lung endothelial barrier, which results in protein-rich lung edema, influx of proinflammatory leukocytes, and intractable hypoxemia. Pyroptosis is a form of programmed lytic cell death that is triggered by inflammatory caspases, but little is known about its role in EC death and acute lung injury. Here, we show that systemic exposure to the bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) causes severe endothelial pyroptosis that is mediated by the inflammatory caspases, human caspases 4/5 in human ECs, or the murine homolog caspase-11 in mice in vivo.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of sulfonamide analogues of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor ZSTK474.

Replacement of one of the morpholine groups of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor ZSTK474 (1) with sulfonamide containing substituents produced a new class of active and potent PI3Kα inhibitors. Solubility issues prevented all but the 6-amino derivative 17 from being evaluated in vivo, but the clear activity of this compound demonstrated that this class of PI3K inhibitor shows great promise.

Jet reconstruction and performance using particle flow with the ATLAS Detector.

This paper describes the implementation and performance of a particle flow algorithm applied to 20.2 fb[Formula: see text] of ATLAS data from 8 TeV proton-proton collisions in Run 1 of the LHC. The algorithm removes calorimeter energy deposits due to charged hadrons from consideration during jet reconstruction, instead using measurements of their momenta from the inner tracker.

Phase I/II randomized controlled trial of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy for chronic stroke.

Aim: To examine the safety and efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy for intracerebral haemorrhage with neurological dysfunctions for a year.

Methods: MSC were expanded from 29 mL (17-42 mL) autologous bone marrow. Patients were randomized to have two intravenous injections of autologous MSC or placebos in four weeks apart.

Background: Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are the mainstay of treatment for asthma. Corticosteroid (CS) phobia and fears are prevalent, and these may influence therapeutic efficacy and asthma control.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate if CS fear is associated with asthma control in children.

Aim: It is important to objectively measure the severity of atopic dermatitis (AD). This study aims to investigate correlations among various clinical severity scores and determine how a severity score based on symptoms alone performs.

Methods: A Chinese-translated symptom score based on Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM, a short-term subjective-symptom score), Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD, a short-term subjective-symptom and objective-sign score), Nottingham Eczema Severity Score (NESS, a long-term subjective symptoms + objective signs), Children Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI, a short-term subjective-symptom score), skin hydration (SH) and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were compared and Spearman's rho correlations was evaluated.

Treatment of stable slipped capital femoral epiphysis: systematic review and exploratory patient level analysis.

Background: Several aspects of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) treatment remain controversial. Loder's work has been instrumental in changing our understanding and approach to the management of the condition when he introduced the concept of "slip instability" and showed that avascular necrosis (AVN) developed in 47% of unstable slips but none of the stable slips. As the two types of SCFE behave differently in terms of presentation, progress and complications, we approached them as two different conditions to highlight these differences.

Results of a search for physics beyond the Standard Model in events containing an energetic photon and large missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. As the number of events observed in data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb[Formula: see text]  of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of [Formula: see text], is in agreement with the Standard Model expectations, model-independent limits are set on the fiducial cross section for the production of events in this final state.

Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation to Functional Arterial Endothelial Cells through Sequential Activation of ETV2 and NOTCH1 Signaling by HIF1α.

The generation of functional arterial endothelial cells (aECs) from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) holds great promise for vascular tissue engineering. However, the mechanisms underlying their generation and the potential of aECs in revascularizing ischemic tissue are not fully understood. Here, we observed that hypoxia exposure of mouse ESCs induced an initial phase of HIF1α-mediated upregulation of the transcription factor Etv2, which in turn induced the commitment to the EC fate.

miR-181d regulates human dendritic cell maturation through NF-κB pathway.
