Tumor cell-induced platelet aggregation (TCIPA) is a mechanism for the protection of tumor cells in the bloodstream and the promotion of tumor progression and metastases. The platelet C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2) can bind podoplanin (PDPN) on a cancer cell surface to facilitate TCIPA. Selective blockage of PDPN-mediated platelet-tumor cell interaction is a plausible strategy for inhibiting metastases.

Clinical Features and Vaccination Effects among Children with Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 in Taiwan.

Background: Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) affects patients after recovering from acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study investigates the impact of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination on PASC symptoms in children in Taiwan during the Omicron pandemic.

Methods: We enrolled children under 18 years with PASC symptoms persisting for more than 4 weeks.

Background: Mitochondria is prone to oxidative damage by endogenous and exogenous sources of free radicals, including particulate matter (PM). Given the role of mitochondria in inflammatory disorders, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, we hypothesized that supplementation of vitamin D may play a protective role in PM-induced mitochondrial oxidative damages of human bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B cells.

Methods: BEAS-2B cells were pretreated with 1,25(OH)D, an active form of vitamin D, for 1 h prior to 24-hour exposure to PM (SRM-1648a).

Background: Antenatal corticosteroids are considered the standard of care for pregnant women at risk for preterm birth, but studies examining their potential risks are scarce. We aimed to estimate the associations of antenatal corticosteroids with three severe adverse events: sepsis, heart failure, and gastrointestinal bleeding, in pregnant women.

Methods: Of 2,157,321 pregnant women, 52,119 at 24 weeks 0/7 days to 36 weeks 6/7 days of gestation were included in this self-controlled case series study during the study period of 2009-2018.

Association between antenatal corticosteroids and risk of serious infection in children: nationwide cohort study.

Objective: To investigate the associations between exposure to antenatal corticosteroids and serious infection in children during the first three, six, and 12 months of life.

Design: Nationwide cohort study.

Setting: National Health Insurance Research Database, Birth Reporting Database, and Maternal and Child Health Database, 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2019, to identify all pregnant individuals and their offspring in Taiwan.

Clinical course and risk factors for sleep disturbance in patients with ischemic stroke.

Background: Studies on insomnia in patients with ischemic stroke, particularly in the acute phase, are limited. The proportion of patients with sleep disturbance during the acute stroke period who are likely to develop insomnia in subacute and chronic stages of stroke is unknown.
