Accurate quantification of intraoperative blood loss is crucial for enhancing patient safety and the success rate of surgeries. Traditional estimation techniques, mainly reliant on visual assessments, are prone to significant inaccuracies due to their subjective nature. This study introduces MDCare, an innovative deep learning-integrated system designed to substantially improve the precision of blood loss quantification using surgical sponges.

Cochlear implants can partially restore hearing function in deaf individuals, but long-term speech listening outcomes vary widely across cochlear implant users. Visual cross-modal plasticity, where auditory cortical neurons upregulate visual inputs to assist visual processing, is one factor proposed to worsen cochlear implant users' speech outcomes because it may limit auditory processing capability. However, evidence for this view is conflicting, and the relationship of cross-modal activity to speech perception may depend on other variables such as the type of visual activity and when it is assessed.

Electrolytic glucose oxidation has garnered great interest in energy-saving hydrogen generation. However, high charge-transfer resistance and inefficient active centers have been recognized as the primary issues for poor electrochemical performance. In this study, for the first time, we offer a novel defect-rich CeO /β-Ni(OH) composite nanosheet-decorated Ni foam electrocatalyst (denoted as Ce@NF-GA), synthesized a unique hydrothermal approach under the co-participation of glycerol and acetic acid.

Article Synopsis
  • Erectile dysfunction (ED) shares risk factors with cardiovascular disease, like obesity and a sedentary lifestyle, but its relationship with cardiovascular risk in Vietnam is not well understood.
  • A study involving 2,936 men aged 40 to 69 in Vietnam found that those with diabetes and hypertension had significantly lower erectile function scores than healthy men.
  • The results suggest a strong link between ED and cardiovascular risk, highlighting the importance of screening for both conditions together, especially in diabetic patients.

Thiocarboxamide chelates are known to assemble [2Mn2S] diamond core complexes via μ-S bridges that connect two Mn(CO) fragments. These can exist as and -isomers and interconvert via 16-electron, monomeric intermediates. Herein, we demonstrate that reduction of such Mn derivatives leads to a loss of one thiocarboxamide ligand and a switch of ligand binding mode from an O- to N-donor of the amide group, yielding a dianionic butterfly rhomb with a short Mn-Mn distance, 2.

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is often overlooked in the treatment of head and neck cancer (HNC), and understanding the connection between the two is essential for improving patient care.
  • The paper reviews HNC therapy, the associations between OSA and HNC before and after treatment, and suggests appropriate statistical methods for researchers to investigate their relationship.
  • Findings indicate a positive correlation between OSA severity and tumor size, alongside new evidence of how head and neck tumors and surgeries can influence OSA, highlighting the need for further research with more detailed data to fully grasp their interconnection.

Article Synopsis
  • - Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), a viral condition affecting cattle, has spread across Asia since its emergence in October 2020, causing economic losses in regions like Vietnam.
  • - The study collected blood samples from 180 cattle in the Mekong Delta to analyze the LSD virus and its genetic material, specifically the GPCR gene, to understand its evolutionary relationship with other strains.
  • - Results showed that LSDV was present in 8.33% of the samples, revealing genetic similarities with strains from China and Northern Vietnam, suggesting that regional monitoring and control measures are crucial for effective disease management.

Precise measurement of magnetic fields is essential for various applications, such as fundamental physics, space exploration, and biophysics. Although recent progress in quantum engineering has assisted in creating advanced quantum magnetometers, there are still ongoing challenges in improving their efficiency and noise resistance. This study focuses on using symmetric graph state resources for quantum magnetometry to enhance measurement precision by analyzing the estimation theory under time-homogeneous and time-inhomogeneous noise models.

Drought is one of the common natural disasters with a wide range of occurrences in terms of space and time, and with varying levels of severity, that may result in economic damage and health issues to humans. This study focuses on assessing drought severity in the Central Highlands of Vietnam based on ground meteorological stations and multispectral remote sensing data. A Modification of the Normalized Difference Drought Index (MNDDI) was developed to enhance the effectiveness of remote sensing indices in the drought assessment.

We report an experimental measurement of giant group index in the Rb atomic medium at room temperature via a four-level V-type scheme on the D line. Our experiment uses co-propagation configuration of probe and coupling lasers through an atomic sample. In this configuration, three sharp EIT windows with significant transparency depths are observed on the probe absorption spectrum.

Background: There has been a series of bird surveys conducted in Vietnam over the last 20 years. However, most of these studies and surveys have focused on sites in Tonkin, the Red River Delta, Cochinchina (Mekong Delta), the Central Highlands and mountainous areas of Central Annam (Central region of Vietnam). The central coastal plain as well as the mountainous region of North Annam have rarely been comprehensively investigated.

Introduction: Bilothorax is a rare and poorly documented condition in the medical literature, with following hepatobiliary procedures being the most common cause. We present a case of bilothorax following endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for choledocholithiasis.

Case Presentation: A 71-year-old woman with a history of prior percutaneous biliary stone removals presented with Charcot's triad and was diagnosed with cholangitis due to a distal common bile duct stone.

Head and neck radiotherapy planning requires electron densities from different tissues for dose calculation. Dose calculation from imaging modalities such as MRI remains an unsolved problem since this imaging modality does not provide information about the density of electrons. We propose a generative adversarial network (GAN) approach that synthesizes CT (sCT) images from T1-weighted MRI acquisitions in head and neck cancer patients.

Importance: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the capability of providing ongoing paracrine support to degenerating tissues. Since MSCs can be extracted from a broad range of tissues, their specific surface marker profiles and growth factor secretions can be different. We hypothesized that MSCs derived from different sources might also have different neuroprotective potential.
