- Gingival color significantly impacts smile aesthetics, with hyperpigmentation leading to unesthetic appearances, especially in individuals with a gummy smile. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of carbon dioxide (CO) laser treatment for gingival hyperpigmentation.
- Conducted in Vietnam with 38 patients, the study used assessments like Ponnaiyan classification and the Hedin melanin index to measure pigmentation and evaluated pain levels during treatment with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS).
- Results indicated that CO laser treatment resulted in minimal pain and 100% complete epithelization within a week, with high rates of improvement in pigmentation scores after 12 weeks, confirming it as a safe and effective treatment option.
