Objective: Insertional speed of cochlear implant electrode arrays (EA) during surgery is correlated with force. Low insertional speed, and therefore force, may allow for preservation of intracochlear structures leading to improved outcomes. Given the importance of low insertional speeds, we investigate the feasibility of using inertial sensors for kinematic analysis during EA insertion to augment otolaryngology-head and neck surgery training.

Robotic assisted partial nephrectomy (RPN) has emerged in urologic practice for the management of appropriately sized renal masses. We provide a 20-year comparison of the outcomes of open partial nephrectomy (OPN) versus RPN for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) at our institution. Objective: Laryngeal cancer resections often require excision of portions of the larynx along with sacrifice of the ipsilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). In such cases, there are no reconstructive options that reliably restore laryngeal function, rendering patients with severe functional impairment. To address this unmet clinical need, we extend our evaluation of a 3-implant mucosal, muscle, cartilage reconstruction approach aimed at promoting functional laryngeal restoration in a porcine hemilaryngectomy model with ipsilateral RLN transection.

Hypoglossal nerve stimulation is a treatment option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea who are intolerant to positive airway pressure therapy.
