In a pseudovirus neutralization assay, 66 of the nearly 400 candidate therapeutics in the Coronavirus Immunotherapeutic Consortium (CoVIC) panel neutralize Omicron and multiple Omicron sublineages. The purpose of this study was to determine if first year medical student empathy is affected by small group interactions with patients with neurological disorders, and to investigate if changes in empathy persisted over time.
Materials And Methods: Eighty first year medical students participating in a Neuroscience Module interacted with a variety of neurological patients in a small group informational session.
Implementing educational activities, such as a wet lab with cadaveric brain dissection, is known to have a direct impact on medical students' motivation. These activities demonstrate the clinical relevance of concepts taught in the classroom setting. The correlation between motivation and academic performance is not clear.

Methods: Repetitive measurements were made in 90 pediatric participants ranging in age from 1 to 18 years, providing a total of 100 measurements under ambient light conditions. The participants consisted of 45 patients without known intracranial or ophthalmological pathological conditions as well as 45 volunteers in the outpatient setting.
Background: Meaningful exchange of microarray data is currently difficult because it is rare that published data provide sufficient information depth or are even in the same format from one publication to another. Only when data can be easily exchanged will the entire biological community be able to derive the full benefit from such microarray studies.
Results: To this end we have developed three key ingredients towards standardizing the storage and exchange of microarray data.
Rationale And Objectives: A series of preclinical tests were undertaken during the developmental process to determine the safety profile of gadoversetamide injection (OptiMARK).
Methods: Acute intravenous, acute intracisternal, and repeated-dose toxicities; cardiovascular effects; and genetic and reproductive toxicology characteristics were assessed in several animal species.
Results: Gadoversetamide injection demonstrated an acute intravenous median lethal dose of 25 to 28 mmol/kg and a maximum nonlethal dose of 14 mmol/kg in mice.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFMeasurements of cross-sectional muscle areas of the upper-arm and mid-thigh from MRI images were compared to corresponding estimates from anthropometric measurements of limb circumferences and skinfold thicknesses in 25 normal, healthy, elderly persons. The anthropometric method significantly overestimated actual muscle areas, and the amount of error increased systematically with level of adiposity. These results agree with those from other, similar studies using CT in younger adults, but indicate that the degree of error is 2 to 3 times greater for elderly persons.

Here we report that antigen-stimulated Ca2+ influx and secretion are impaired and ionomycin-induced responses are strongly inhibited following the removal of HCO3- from the medium. These results raised the possibility that HCO3(-)-dependent pH regulation mechanisms play a role in the cascade of events leading to mast cell activation.
