Introduction: The benefit of secondary prevention in hypertensive patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is based on continual simultaneous taking of statins, antiplatelet agents and antihypertensive agents, preferably angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Our study was aimed at a) the analysis of the extent of non-persistence with multiple medication classes, and b) identifying factors associated with the likelihood of non-persistence.

Methods: In our cohort study, 3,401 hypertensive patients (1,853 females and 1,548 males) aged ≥65 years treated simultaneously with statins, antiplatelet agents and ACEIs/ARBs and in whom PAD was newly diagnosed during 2012 were analysed.

The hepatic P450 hemoproteins CYPs 4A are typical N-terminally anchored Type I endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-proteins, that are inducible by hypolipidemic drugs and other "peroxisome proliferators". They are engaged in the ω-/ω-1-oxidation of various fatty acids including arachidonic acid, prostaglandins and leukotrienes and in the biotransformation of some therapeutic drugs. The impact of atmospheric pollution on the growth of European forest tree species, particularly European beech, Silver fir and Norway spruce, is examined in five mesic forests in the Czech Republic. Analyzing of basal area increment (BAI) patterns using linear mixed effect models reveals a complex interplay between atmospheric nitrogen (N) and sulphur (S) deposition, climatic variables and changing CO concentrations. Beech BAI responds positively to N deposition (in tandem with air CO concentration), with soil phosphorus (P) availability emerging as a significant factor influencing overall growth rates.

We have previously documented that in liver cells, the multifunctional protein scaffold p62/SQSTM1 is closely associated with IκBα, an inhibitor of the transcriptional activator NF-κB. Such an intimate p62-IκBα association we now document leads to a marked 18-fold proteolytic IκBα-stabilization, enabling its nuclear entry and termination of the NF-κB-activation cycle. In p62-cells, such termination is abrogated resulting in the nuclear persistence and prolonged activation of NF-κB following inflammatory stimuli.

Linked to major volcanic eruptions around 536 and 540 CE, the onset of the Late Antique Little Ice Age has been described as the coldest period of the past two millennia. TRIO encodes a cytoskeletal regulatory protein with three catalytic domains-two guanine exchange factor (GEF) domains, GEF1 and GEF2, and a kinase domain-as well as several accessory domains that have not been extensively studied. Tree rings provide valuable insight into past environmental changes. This study aimed to evaluate perturbations in tree ring width (TRW) and δN alongside soil acidity and nutrient availability gradients caused by the contrasting legacy of air pollution (nitrogen [N] and sulphur [S] deposition) and tree species (European beech, Silver fir and Norway spruce). We found consistent declines of tree ring δN, which were temporarily unrelated to the changes in the TRW.
