Article Synopsis
  • Second molars are at a higher risk for periodontitis when next to third molars that are unlikely to be saved, making their health restoration crucial, especially after third molar removal.
  • The case report highlights the use of high-level laser therapy (HLLT), advanced-platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF), and low-level laser therapy (photobiomodulation [PBM]) as a combined treatment method to address infection and promote healing.
  • Results showed improvements in clinical metrics and bone regeneration at the second molar site three months after using this synergistic approach, suggesting it could be effective for treating acute infections.

Objectives: To determine the clinico-radiographic efficiency of partially demineralized dentin matrix block (PDDM block), a mixture of PDDM with advanced-platelet-rich fibrin+ (A-PRF+) and injectable platelet-rich fibrin versus A-PRF+ alone in alveolar socket preservation.

Materials And Methods: Sixteen molar teeth indicated for extraction were randomly assigned into two groups. For the test group, sockets were packed with PDDM block and control group, with A-PRF+ plug alone.

Article Synopsis
  • PRF (Platelet-rich fibrin), specifically L-PRF and A-PRF, is used in periodontics for its wound healing abilities, with a study aimed at comparing their angiogenic potential using a CAM assay.
  • Both L-PRF and A-PRF significantly outperformed the control group in enhancing blood vessel metrics such as number, length, size, and density seven days after inoculation.
  • A-PRF showed superior results compared to L-PRF, indicating its greater effectiveness in promoting angiogenesis.

A total of 20 atrophic maxillary sinuses were augmented with recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor BB (rhPDGF-BB), alloplast, and bovine xenograft using a direct approach. CBCT imaging was performed at baseline, immediately postoperatively, and at 6 and 30 months postoperatively. A histologic evaluation revealed the bone bridging and bone regenerative efficacy of the graft material.

Background: Several bone grafting formulations have been given clinically acceptable outcomes in treating intrabony defects. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF), an autologous platelet concentrate holds potential to be used for regenerative treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes in periodontal intrabony defects treated with advanced-PRF block (A PRF + i PRF + nanohydroxyapatite [nHA]) compared to nHA alone.

Background: Currently, the knowledge on the clinical effect of 4% mangosteen gel as a local drug delivery, adjunctive to non-surgical periodontal therapy, on the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) levels in chronic periodontitis patients is limited.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of 4% mangosteen gel and a placebo gel as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) on clinical and biochemical parameters in chronic periodontitis patients.

Material And Methods: A total of 50 test sites from 25 patients with Stage II Grade B periodontitis were randomly divided into 2 groups.

Liquid or injectable platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation platelet concentrate that is completely autologous and free of external additives, like bovine thrombin and calcium chloride. Additionally, it is the only one to be obtained in a liquid form among the second-generation platelet concentrates. This allows for wide applications such as maximizing injections or mixing with biomaterials such as bone grafts or antibiotics.

Aim: Biomimetic implant surface coatings can improve osteoblast response and enhance osseointegration. This study aimed to assess the response of osteoblast-like cell line (MG-63) coating of injectable platelet-rich fibrin on titanium discs.

Materials And Methods: Injectable-PRF (i-PRF) was prepared by centrifugation of blood at 700 rpm for 3 minutes without any anti-coagulant in i-PRF tubes.

Saddle flap technique, a modified coronally advanced flap approach for isolated gingival recession management was introduced and assessed in terms of clinical efficacy and patient satisfaction. A total of 10 systemically healthy subjects with isolated gingival recession defect (Miller Class I and II) were enrolled in the study. The primary endpoint measure was patient satisfaction in terms of esthetics and percentage root coverage.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterised by destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth which is a common cause of tooth mortality in all individuals throughout the world. Diabetes is a group of metabolic dysregulation, primarily of carbohydrate metabolism, characterized by hyperglycemia that results from defects in insulin secretion, impaired insulin action, or both. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis have shown that the prevalence of periodontitis is increased in diabetic patients.

Background: Recent evidence suggests the interactions between bacterial DNA and nucleic acid receptors to play a role in inflammatory tissue destruction. The current study aims to evaluate the expression of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) in periodontal disease associated with or without hyperlipidemia and to associate it with the presence of .

Materials And Methods: Thirty participants in the age range of 25-50 years were randomly recruited and divided into three groups, i.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of the vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (VISTA) technique with collagen membrane, bioactive glass, and platelet-rich fibrin. A total of 22 systemically and periodontally healthy subjects with multiple gingival recession defects (Miller Class I and II) in the maxillary esthetic zone were enrolled in the study. The primary outcome measures were mean root coverage and alteration in gingival thickness.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the major public health problems. Association of diabetes and periodontitis is widely proven and can influence each other in the development and progression of the disease and its complications, which are largely preventable. Hence, if data could be collected on the knowledge and awareness about the association between DM and periodontal disease, the results could be applied in creating public health campaigns and can bring about lifestyle modification among people.

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of transdermal and oral routes of diclofenac for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing dental implant placement. Twenty systemically healthy, partially edentulous patients who required dental implants bilaterally in the mandibular first molar region were included. While the patient was under local anesthesia, an implant was placed in the mandibular first molar region of one quadrant.

Sudden tooth loss in the esthetic zone of the maxillary or mandibular anterior region can be due to trauma, periodontal disease, or endodontic failure. The treatment options for replacing the missing tooth can vary between removable prosthesis, tooth-supported prosthesis, and implant-supported prosthesis. Irrespective of the final treatment, the first line of management would be to provisionally restore the patient's esthetic appearance at the earliest, while functionally stabilizing the compromised arch.
