Introduction: The integration of novel electronic informed consent platforms in healthcare has undergone significant growth over the last decade. Adoption of uniform, accessible, and robust electronic online consenting applications is likely to enhance the informed consent process and improve the patient experience and has the potential to reduce medico-legal ramifications of inadequate consent. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the utility of novel electronic means of informed consent in surgical patients and discuss its application to neurosurgical cohorts.

Outcome of endodontic treatments performed by Brazilian undergraduate students: 3- to 8-year follow up.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the success rate of endodontic treatments performed by undergraduate students and the factors associated with the outcome.

Materials And Methods: A follow-up of 3 to 8 years after root canal filling was carried out in 91 patients. At the follow-up visits, medical and dental history questionnaires were applied along with clinical and radiographic examinations.

Background: Acquisition of surgical instruments (SI) and implants by loaner system is a worldwide practice. Although quality of device reprocessing has been reported to be lower in low and middle-income countries compared with higher income countries, few investigations have been conducted on the management and reprocessing of loaned devices. Thus, in this study we evaluate the practices of management and reprocessing of loaner SI and non-sterile implants (NSI) in a high (Australia) and a middle-income (Brazil) country.

In this study, multivariate methodologies were applied in the optimization of a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) method, aiming at the determination of Cu and Mn in coconut water samples by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Confocal endomicroscopy and robot-assisted bronchoplasty integration to treat an endobronchial tumour.

We present a case of a young man with an endobronchial carcinoid in the left main bronchus, which was treated integrating probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy and fluorescence imaging during a robot-assisted bronchoplasty. This technique allowed precise detection of the neoplastic area, avoiding associated lung resection. The incorporation of new technologies to our current practice may lead to a better approach to airway tumours.

Estimating completeness of national and subnational death reporting in Brazil: application of record linkage methods.

Background: In Brazil, both the Civil Registry (CR) and Ministry of Health (MoH) Mortality Information System (SIM) are sources of routine mortality data, but neither is 100% complete. Deaths from these two sources can be linked to facilitate estimation of completeness of mortality reporting and measurement of adjusted mortality indicators using generalized linear modeling (GLM).

Methods: The 2015 and 2016 CR and SIM data were linked using deterministic methods.

Robotic thoracic surgery for resection of thymoma and tumors of the thymus: technical development and initial experience.

Objective: To evaluate the results of resection of tumors of the thymus by robotic thoracic surgery, analyzing the extent of resection, postoperative complications, time of surgery, and length of stay.

Methods: Retrospective study from a database involving patients diagnosed with a tumor of the thymus and undergoing robotic thoracic surgery at one of seven hospitals in Brazil between October of 2015 and June of 2018.

Results: During the study period, there were 18 cases of resection of tumors of the thymus: thymoma, in 12; carcinoma, in 2; and carcinoid tumor, in 1; high-grade sarcoma, in 1; teratoma, in 1; and thymolipoma, in 1.

Building a Large Robotic Thoracic Surgery Program in an Emerging Country: Experience in Brazil.

Background: In the last decade, robotic video-assisted thoracic surgery (R-VATS) has grown significantly and consolidated as an alternative to video-assisted thoracic surgery. The objective of this study is to present the implementation as well as the experience with R-VATS accumulated by 2 Brazilian groups. Based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic markers and the fertility of sexual crosses, two novel species of Fusarium associated with Dactylopius opuntiae (Hemiptera: Dactylopiidae) and Aleurocanthus woglumi (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) from northeastern Brazil are described as Fusarium caatingaense and F. pernambucanum. Partial sequences of five loci were generated for 29 entomopathogenic Fusarium isolates.

Although microbial functional redundancy seems to overcome taxonomical composition changes, the sensitivity and resilience of soil microbial communities from subtropical regions in response to seasonal variations are still poorly understood. Thus, the development of new strategies for biodiversity conservation and sustainable management require a complete understanding of the soil abiotic process involved in the selection of microbial taxa and functions.

Speech-language pathology aspects in a pediatric case of head and neck arthrogryposis.

Arthrogryposis is a rare, multiple, congenital syndrome of non-progressive nature characterized by a series of genetic malformations, as well as stiffness and joint contractures. This is a clinical case study whose objective is to describe speech-language pathology disorders through the evaluation process in a case of arthrogryposis in Pediatrics. The medical records of a patient were analyzed from birth.

Evaluation of the Responsiveness Index of the Family Health Strategy in rural areas.

Objective To evaluate the responsiveness of Family Health Strategy units in the rural area of the Federal District registered in the National Program for Improvement of Access and Quality of Basic Care. Implementation research: towards universal health coverage with more doctors in Brazil.

Objective: To evaluate the implementation of a programme to provide primary care physicians for remote and deprived populations in Brazil.
