Mixed methods research is an approach that intentionally integrates both quantitative and qualitative research methods to answer a research question. The hallmark of mixed methods research is a focus on designing studies that integrate both quantitative and qualitative data, yielding greater results than either method could yield on its own. Objective: The purpose of this scoping review was to systematically examine interventions that focused on physical activity assessment and promotion in clinical settings in the United States.

Data Sources: A literature search was performed in 6 major databases to extract published peer-reviewed studies from 2008 to 2019.

Inclusion And Exclusion Criteria: Interventions with practicing health professionals in the United States who performed physical activity assessment and promotion with adult patients 18 years of age and older.

West Virginia is a rural state with an aging population that may experience barriers to accessing nutritional and lifestyle counseling. This study examined feasibility of an online personalized nutrition tracking application, Good Measures (GM), with patients at seven health care clinics throughout the state. Fourteen healthcare providers and 64 patients 18 years or older with a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 and access to the Internet were recruited for this 12-week feasibility study.

Family physicians provide care for about one-third of the children and adolescents in the United States, many of whom present with psychological concerns. Family physicians often do not recognize these psychological disorders and therefore do not diagnose or treat them. This report describes the implementation of a curriculum designed to increase family medicine trainees' level of awareness that children/adolescents experience psychiatric conditions.

Objective: The primary purpose of this article is to review the unique wellness factors that affect physicians practicing in rural communities. Research has indicated that rural communities often struggle to attract and retain primary care physicians and numerous wellness factors impact these attraction/ retention rates.

Method: Articles selected for inclusion in this review were determined based upon their relevance to rural physicians, overall wellness factors of physicians, and recruitment and retention of physicians in rural communities.
