Article Synopsis
  • A significant increase in food consumption outside the home is noted, impacting individual diets and health negatively, with limited data on this trend due to a lack of dietary surveys in certain regions.
  • The study aimed to create and test two survey modules (one long and one short) in Burkina Faso and Vietnam to measure food consumed away from home in relation to regular Household Consumption and Expenditure Surveys.
  • Although the modules showed good agreement with 24-hour dietary recalls (over 77% accuracy), they underestimated energy intake and overestimated spending on food consumed outside the home, indicating a need for better tools to assess these dietary habits globally.

Article Synopsis
  • Blume tea, a traditional Vietnamese medicine, has shown potential in treating various health issues and possesses diverse pharmacological properties, although its anticancer effects were previously unclear.
  • Recent studies indicated that extracts from J. subtriplinerve, specifically the ethyl acetate fraction, demonstrated significant anti-proliferative effects on breast cancer cells while other fractions did not show efficacy.
  • In mouse models, the ethyl acetate fraction reduced tumor incidence and mortality when administered, suggesting that Blume tea could be a safe and effective chemopreventive option against breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted with 628 undergraduates in central Vietnam to assess their needs for intercultural communication competence (ICC) in learning English for tourism purposes.
  • Data was collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, revealing that students favored real-life experiences and authentic materials in their language learning activities.
  • The results showed students had a strong desire for improving their discourse and behavioral competencies in intercultural communication, highlighting the importance of ICC training for students, educators, and stakeholders in tourism.

strain Plasma (LC-Plasma) is reported to have anti-viral effects via direct activation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells, which upregulate the production of type I and III interferons. A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel group study was designed for elementary schoolchildren, grades 1 to 3, in Vietnam. LC-Plasma or a control were administered to schoolchildren as a beverage (1.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of fermented milk containing Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (LcS) on the incidence of constipation, diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (ARI), and nutritional status of young Vietnamese children.

Methods: A controlled field trial was conducted with 1003 children (3-5 years old) in Thanh Hoa province in Vietnam. The probiotic group (n = 510) consumed fermented milk 65 mL/day containing 10 CFU/mL of LcS for the 12-week intervention period, whereas the control group (n = 493) was not given any.

Lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) is the most common genetically inherited risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Many aspects of Lp(a) metabolism remain unknown. We assessed the uptake of fluorescent Lp(a) in primary human lymphocytes as well as Lp(a) hepatic capture in a mouse model in which endogenous hepatocytes have been ablated and replaced with human ones.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers are focusing on new methods to prevent and eliminate biofilms due to their increased resistance to disinfectants and antibiotics.
  • In past studies, a structure called 5-aryl-2-aminoimidazole was found to effectively prevent biofilm formation across various bacteria and fungi.
  • The study involved synthesizing 48 dimers of this compound, with variations in their structure, and many showed enhanced anti-biofilm activity, particularly against bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli, without affecting their growth in free-floating (planktonic) forms.

A microwave-assisted protocol was developed for the construction of 2-amino-1H-imidazole/triazole conjugates starting from the previously described 2-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-ium salts. The process involves a one-pot hydrazinolysis/Dimroth-rearrangement of these salts followed by a ligand-free copper nanoparticle-catalyzed azide-alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition. The 2-amino-1H-imidazole/triazole conjugates showed moderate to high preventive activity against biofilms of S.

A new megastigmane glycoside, galloyl linarionoside A (1), together with 13 known compounds (2-14) were isolated from the aerial parts of Aceriphyllum rossii ENGLER. (Saxifragaceae). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were established mainly by using nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, mass spectrometry, and modified Mosher's method.
