Virtual Neonatal Resuscitation Curriculum for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Improve Out-of-Hospital Newborn Care.

Objectives: Out-of-hospital births are associated with a 2-to 11-fold increased risk of death compared to in-hospital births and are growing. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinicians have limited exposure to hospital birth emergencies, and there is no standardized prehospital neonatal resuscitation curriculum. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines are the standard of care for infants born in the United States but focuses on in-hospital births and is not easily applied to EMS.

Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome in E292V homozygous ABCA3.

We describe a late preterm neonate presenting with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), homozygous for the E292V missense mutation in the ATP-binding cassette subfamily A, member 3 gene. The neonate improved with supportive care. The E292V variant is the most common mutation in ABCA3, which is essential in surfactant synthesis.

A genotyping array for the globally invasive vector mosquito, Aedes albopictus.

Background: Although whole-genome sequencing (WGS) is the preferred genotyping method for most genomic analyses, limitations are often experienced when studying genomes characterized by a high percentage of repetitive elements, high linkage, and recombination deserts. The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), for example, has a genome comprising up to 72% repetitive elements, and therefore we set out to develop a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip to be more cost-effective. Aedes albopictus is an invasive species originating from Southeast Asia that has recently spread around the world and is a vector for many human diseases.

Effect of Blood Gel Derivatives on Wound Healing in Mouse Injured Tissue Models.

Several previous studies in the field of assisted reproduction have focused on the use of blood gel derivatives, such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), as a treatment for endometrial rehabilitation. However, the ability to release growth factors and the gel form of this product led to the evolution of platelet lysates. In this study, blood gel derivatives, including PRF lysate, which was in liquid form, and PRF gel, were collected and evaluated for growth factors.

A case of palisaded neutrophilic and granulomatous dermatitis associated with systemic lupus erythematosus presenting with pustules.

Palisaded neutrophilic and granulomatous dermatitis (PNGD) is a relatively rare skin disease that is characterized by a reactive granulomatous histopathological pattern and is often associated with systemic autoimmune diseases. We encountered a case of PNGD that presented with pustules, although the prototypical clinical presentation of PNGD is mainly erythema and papules. Here, this rare case of PNGD with pustules is presented and discussed in relation to the relevant literature.

Occurrence of Marek's Disease in Backyard Chicken Flocks in Vietnam.

Marek's disease (MD) is a common lymphomatous and neuropathic disease of birds, especially chickens, and has caused significant losses to chicken production as a result of high mortality and morbidity. This study aims to determine the status of MD in backyard flocks in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam and to analyze clinical cases occurring during a year. The study was carried out from August 2018 to July 2019, during which time 16 suspected cases of chicken flocks with MD were observed, 40 chickens were subjected to anatomopathological examination, and PCR was performed for diagnosis of MD and determination of Marek's disease virus (MDV) serotypes.

Aim: Neonatal cardiopulmonary arrests are rare but serious events. There is limited information on compliance to best-practice guidelines due to rarity, but deviations can have dire consequences. This research aimed to characterize compliance with and deviations from Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines and their association with teamwork.

A comparative study of dengue virus vectors in major parks and adjacent residential areas in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The primary dengue virus vectors, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, are primarily daytime biting mosquitoes. The risk of infection is suspected to be considerable in urban parks due to visitor traffic. Despite the importance of vector control for reducing dengue transmission, little information is available on vector populations in urban parks.

The Effects of Leadership Curricula With and Without Implicit Bias Training on Graduate Medical Education: A Multicenter Randomized Trial.

Purpose: To determine whether a brief leadership curriculum including high-fidelity simulation can improve leadership skills among resident physicians.

Method: This was a double-blind, randomized controlled trial among obstetrics-gynecology and emergency medicine (EM) residents across 5 academic medical centers from different geographic areas of the United States, 2015-2017. Participants were assigned to 1 of 3 study arms: the Leadership Education Advanced During Simulation (LEADS) curriculum, a shortened Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) curriculum, or as active controls (no leadership curriculum).

Hepatitis C Virus Nonstructural 5A Protein Interacts with Telomere Length Regulation Protein: Implications for Telomere Shortening in Patients Infected with HCV.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic liver disease and is highly dependent on cellular proteins for viral propagation. Using protein microarray analysis, we identified 90 cellular proteins as HCV nonstructural 5A (NS5A) interacting partners, and selected telomere length regulation protein (TEN1) for further study. TEN1 forms a heterotrimeric complex with CTC and STN1, which is essential for telomere protection and maintenance.

Awareness and preparedness of healthcare workers against the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional survey across 57 countries.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there have been concerns related to the preparedness of healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aimed to describe the level of awareness and preparedness of hospital HCWs at the time of the first wave.

Methods: This multinational, multicenter, cross-sectional survey was conducted among hospital HCWs from February to May 2020.

Background: Progression along the HIV care continuum has been a key focus for improving outcomes for people with HIV (PWH). Transgender women with HIV (TGWWH) have not made the same progress as their cisgender counterparts.

Methods: All PWH identifying as transgender women receiving care at our clinic from 1/1/2015 to 12/31/2019 were identified from the electronic health records (EHRs) using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes.
