Background: The optimal treatment for malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) remains uncertain. This systematic review aimed to comprehensively investigate the efficacy and safety of four palliative treatments for malignant GOO: gastrojejunostomy, endoscopic ultrasound-guided gastroenterostomy (EUS-GE), stomach-partitioning gastrojejunostomy (PGJ), and endoscopic stenting.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, ClinicalTrials.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Severity and Early Postoperative Outcomes of Acute Appendicitis.

Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused changes in surgical practice. For acute appendicitis (AA), measures to control the pandemic might hinder patients from seeking medical care timely, resulting in increasing severity, postoperative complications, and mortality. This study aimed to investigate whether the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the severity and postoperative outcomes of patients with AA.

A Cerium-Containing Metal-Organic Framework: Synthesis and Heterogeneous Catalytic Activity toward Fenton-Like Reactions.

A cerium-based metal-organic framework, namely MOF-589, was synthesized using benzoimidephenanthroline tetracarboxylic acid (H BIPA-TC) as an organic linker. Full characterization including single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetrical analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and N adsorption measurements at low pressure and 77 K were carried out. The material was employed as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for decomposition of methylene blue (MB) dye (40 ppm) in the presence of H O in 15 minutes.

Influenza A Viruses of Swine (IAV-S) in Vietnam from 2010 to 2015: Multiple Introductions of A(H1N1)pdm09 Viruses into the Pig Population and Diversifying Genetic Constellations of Enzootic IAV-S.

Unlabelled: Active surveillance of influenza A viruses of swine (IAV-S) involving 262 farms and 10 slaughterhouses in seven provinces in northern and southern Vietnam from 2010 to 2015 yielded 388 isolates from 32 farms; these viruses were classified into H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 subtypes. Whole-genome sequencing followed by phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolates represented 15 genotypes, according to the genetic constellation of the eight segments. All of the H1N1 viruses were entirely A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses, whereas all of the H1N2 and H3N2 viruses were reassortants among 5 distinct ancestral viruses: H1 and H3 triple-reassortant (TR) IAV-S that originated from North American pre-2009 human seasonal H1, human seasonal H3N2, and A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses.

Lessons learned from stakeholders in a facilitation intervention targeting neonatal health in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.

Background: In northern Vietnam the Neonatal health - Knowledge Into Practice (NeoKIP, Current Controlled Trials ISRCTN44599712) trial has evaluated facilitation as a knowledge translation intervention to improve neonatal survival. The results demonstrated that intervention sites, each having an assigned group including local stakeholders supported by a facilitator, lowered the neonatal mortality rate by 50% during the last intervention year compared with control sites. This process evaluation was conducted to identify and describe mechanisms of the NeoKIP intervention based on experiences of facilitators and intervention group members.
