Article Synopsis
  • Four isolates of Elizabethkingia anophelis were identified in a Vietnamese hospital and underwent extensive testing for antibiotic resistance and genomic analysis.
  • Three of the four isolates were found to be genetically distinct, indicating multiple strain emergence rather than a single outbreak strain.
  • The isolates showed resistance to a wide range of antibiotics and contained nine resistance genes within a predicted Integrative and Conjugative Element, suggesting a complex mechanism of resistance that warrants further research.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on Burkholderia dolosa, a dangerous pathogen that can cause infections in hospitalized patients, especially those with strokes. A specific isolate, B. dolosa N149, was characterized as highly resistant to many antibiotics and exceptionally virulent.
  • Using advanced genetic techniques, the researchers identified that this strain had resistance to 31 antibiotics and showcased various mechanisms like multidrug efflux pumps that contribute to its drug resistance.
  • The genome analysis revealed numerous virulence genes linked to its ability to cause disease, and B. dolosa N149 was classified as a new sequence type, furthering understanding of its genetic diversity and potential threat in clinical settings.

Four new -phenethylbenzamide derivatives, named piperbetamides A-D (-), and six allylbenzene derivatives (-) were isolated from the stems of L. Their structures were determined by HR-ESI-MS and NMR spectroscopic methods. Compounds - were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on the growth of nine microorganisms including five Gram-negative (, serovar Typhimurium, , , and Extended-spectrum beta-lactam resistant ), three Gram-positive (, Methicilin-resistant , Vancomycin-resistant ), and one yeast () strains.

Background: Data on breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant infections in vaccinated individuals are limited.

Methods: We studied breakthrough infections among Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccinated healthcare workers in an infectious diseases hospital in Vietnam. We collected demographic and clinical data alongside serial PCR testing, measurement of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and viral whole-genome sequencing.

Aim: This study measured the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 prevention and examined associated factors among patients at a national tertiary general hospital in Vietnam.

Methods: Adult patients admitted to University Medical Center during research period were recruited in a cross-sectional study, which employed a convenience sampling method with a 4-component questionnaire in order to examine the patients' consciousness towards COVID-19 spreading prevention based on four aspects: demographic characteristics (10 items), knowledge (14 items), attitudes (6 items), and practices (7 items).

Results: The study involved 2769 respondents (18-90 years) with the mean age of 38.
