Background: Missed fractures are the leading cause of diagnostic error in the emergency department, and fractures of pediatric bones, particularly subtle wrist fractures, can be misidentified because of their varying characteristics and responses to injury.

Objective: This study evaluated the utility of an object detection deep learning framework for classifying pediatric wrist fractures as positive or negative for fracture, including subtle buckle fractures of the distal radius, and evaluated the performance of this algorithm as augmentation to trainee radiograph interpretation.

Materials And Methods: We obtained 395 posteroanterior wrist radiographs from unique pediatric patients (65% positive for fracture, 30% positive for distal radial buckle fracture) and divided them into train (n = 229), tune (n = 41) and test (n = 125) sets.

Antibiograms are cumulative reports of antimicrobial susceptibility results that are used to guide the selection of empirical antibiotic therapy. Although Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines recommend including only organisms that have at least 30 isolates in an antibiogram, previous studies demonstrated that adherence to this recommendation is highly variable. This paper aims to model the impact of small sample sizes on expected levels of error in cumulative antibiograms by comparing percent susceptibility results for random samples to those of the larger, entire data set.

Functional hyperemia occurs when enhanced neuronal activity signals to increase local cerebral blood flow (CBF) to satisfy regional energy demand. Ca elevation in astrocytes can drive arteriole dilation to increase CBF, yet affirmative evidence for the necessity of astrocytes in functional hyperemia in vivo is lacking. Background: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) can lead to complications that prolong hospital stays and result in patient discomfort as well as increased health care costs and mortality. At our academic medical center in New York City, in 2016-17, 21 of 87 CAUTI cases (24%) were in bedbound female patients in whom indwelling catheters were used for incontinence. Although condom catheters were available as an alternative to indwelling urinary catheters for male patients, there was a lack of effective products for female patients.

An effective vaccine is needed for the prevention and elimination of malaria. The only immunogens that have been shown to have a protective efficacy of more than 90% against human malaria are Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) sporozoites (PfSPZ) manufactured in mosquitoes (mPfSPZ).
