Photodetectors are essential elements for various applications like fiber optic communication systems, biomedical imaging, and so on. Thus, improving the performance and reducing the material costs of photodetectors would act as a motivation toward the future advancement of those applications. This study introduces the development of a nanohybrid of zinc oxide nanorods (ZnONRs) and multi-shaped silver nanoparticles MAgNPs through a simple solution process; in which ZnONRs are hybridized with MAgNPs to enable visible absorption through the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect.

Multifunctional mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) can confer dynamically varied release kinetics depending on the intermolecular interactions between model drugs and functional decorations on the MSNs. Herein, brush-like fluorescent conjugates were grafted on the pore walls of pristine MSNs for high drug loading and to impart fluorescence properties. The fluorescent MSNs (FMSNs) were further coated with polydopamine (PDA) and graphene oxide (GO) double layer, designated FMSNs@PDA and FMSNs@PDA@GO, respectively.

Unlabelled: This study demonstrated the targeted delivery and controlled release of cisplatin drug molecules from doubly decorated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs), which were internally grafted with fluorescent conjugates and externally coated with polydopamine (PDA) and graphene oxide (GO) layers. The brush-like internal conjugates conferred fluorescent functionality and high capacity of cisplatin loading into MSNs, as well as contributing to a sustained release of the cisplatin through a porous channel with the assistance of external PDA layer. A consolidated double-layer formed by electrostatic interactions between the GO nanosheet and the PDA layer induced more controlled release kinetics which was well predicted by Higuchi model.
