Background: Prompt follow-up for positive depression screen results is important in providing high-quality care for adolescents. We sought to improve follow-up within 30 days for adolescents (≥12 years) with Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores ≥10, or those with a positive question 9, from 25% to 40%.

Objectives: Since the Institute of Medicine's 2001 charge to reform health care, there has been a focus on the role of the medical home. Access to care in the proper setting and at the proper time is central to health care reform. We aimed to increase the volume of patients receiving care for acute illnesses within the medical home rather than the emergency department or urgent care center from 41% to 60%.

Methods: Four rural and four urban school districts implementing SBHCs were examined from 2000 to 2003. Total school enrollment for students was 13,046.
Objective: To examine the role of school-based health centers (SBHCs) on changes in student health-related quality of life (HRQOL) over a 3-year period among elementary and middle school students.
Design: Three-year longitudinal prospective study.
Setting: Four elementary schools with newly implemented SBHCs and 4 elementary comparison schools matched for rural/urban and state, percentage of nonwhite students, and percentage of free or reduced-price lunch-eligible students.
