Undifferentiated spindle cell sarcoma at the anastomosis after ileocecal resection for colon cancer: A case report.

Introduction: Spindle cell sarcoma (SCS) is a sarcoma subtype rarely described in the abdominal cavity, and with a worse prognosis compared with that at other sites. We report a case of SCS occurring at the anastomosis after ileal resection for colorectal cancer.

Presentation Of Case: An 86-year-old woman with a chief complaint of abdominal pain had undergone ileal resection, D2 dissection, and hand-sewn anastomosis in 2011 to treat papillary stage I adenocarcinoma.

Predictors of tolerability for postoperative adjuvant S1 plus docetaxel chemotherapy for gastric cancer: a multicenter retrospective study.

Background: Adjuvant docetaxel plus S1 (DS) chemotherapy after gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection is the standard treatment for stage III gastric cancer in Japan; however, some patients are unable to receive adequate drug administration because of the deterioration of their conditions. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between tolerability for postoperative adjuvant DS chemotherapy and prognosis, and the factors affecting tolerability.

Methods: This retrospective study involved patients with stage III gastric cancer who underwent curative resection between 2018 and 2021 from a multicenter database.

Background: Pancreatic adenosquamous cell carcinoma (PASC) is a relatively rare histological type of pancreatic malignancy, and preoperative diagnosis is difficult because of its rarity. PASC accounts for 1-4% of all pancreatic cancers, and even after curative surgery, its prognosis is poorer than that of ordinary pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Pathologically, it shows glandular and squamous differentiation of cells.

Safe suprapancreatic lymph node dissection for gastric cancer with ectopic common hepatic artery.

Suprapancreatic lymph node dissection for patients with gastric cancer in whom the common hepatic artery is located neither at the suprapancreatic margin nor in front of the portal vein is a more difficult procedure than when the common hepatic artery is in a more typical position. There is an increased risk of injury to the vessels that need to be preserved and inadequate lymph node dissection. Measures that have been reported for use in this situation are preoperative diagnosis with three-dimensional computed tomography angiography, dissection using the portal vain as a guide, and safe exposure of the portal vein with dissection to preserve the nerves at the suprapancreatic margin and in front of the portal vein.

Appearance-based gender identification of the horsehair crab [Erimacrus isenbeckii (Brandt, 1848)] is important for preventing indiscriminate fishing of female crabs. Although their gender is easily identified by visual observation of their abdomen because of a difference in the forms of their sex organs, most of the crabs settle with their shell side upward when placed on a floor, making visual gender identification difficult. Our objective is to use deep learning to identify the gender of the horsehair crab on the basis of images of their shell and abdomen sides.

Rhizocephalan barnacles (Thecostraca: Cirripedia) are parasitic crustaceans that lack appendages, segmentation, and a digestive system in adults, while instead infiltrating their hosts with a nutrient-absorbing system of rootlets. Sacculinids, belonging to the Rhizocephala order, are known for their various parasitization-induced effects on their decapod hosts, such as parasitic castration, reduction in the growth of secondary sexual characteristics, feminization of male crabs, and alteration of host behavior. In this study, we conducted field surveys in Japan at Manazuru Town (Kanagawa) on the Pacific coast, and on Sado Island and Noto Peninsula on the Sea of Japan side, and found that sacculinid-parasite-ratios on the grapsid crab were particularly high on the Sea of Japan coast.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with extensive intraductal extension of high-grade biliary intraepithelial neoplasia: a case report.

Background: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is frequently associated with precursor lesions, and biliary intraepithelial neoplasia (BilIN) may play a significant role in the development of ICC. However, the exact sequence and progression of these lesions remain to be elucidated. We report a rare case of ICC that exhibited extensive longitudinal intraductal extension of high-grade BilIN in the posterior bile ducts and involved the hepatic hilum and the peripheral hepatic parenchyma.

The crustacean female sex hormone (CFSH) has been identified as a female-specific hormone that plays a crucial role in female phenotype developments in the blue crab Callinectes sapidus. To date, its homologous genes have been reported in various decapod species. Additionally, unlike the blue crab, several species have two different CFSH subtypes.

Herein, we describe the management of nasopharyngitis caused by Schizophyllum commune infection in a captive cheetah. Computed tomography revealed a nodule in the nasal cavity and pharynx, and an endoscopic biopsy was performed. As a result, the nodule was surgically resected because of a suspected carcinoma.
