The effects on lipid metabolism of a single intramuscular dose of SR 29001 (0.15 U/kg body wt), a biosynthetic human growth hormone (hGH), were explored in a double-blind randomized crossover vs a placebo study of six normal-weight and six obese subjects (Quetelet Index greater than 120%). Circulating hGH concentrations reached means of 35 and 28 ng/mL in the normal-weight and obese subjects, respectively.

We compared the influence of a 12-hour subcutaneous infusion of somatostatin-14 on glucose homeostasis in two normal subjects and two insulin-dependent diabetics (IDD). In all cases, somatostatin infusion led to a decrease of blood glucose during the first hours. The diabetogenic effect of somatostatin was confirmed in normal subjects.

Eighteen patients, most of them plethoric, exhibiting stage I, II or III permanent essential hypertension, were treated following reduction of their weight excess with moderate doses of butofilolol. The minimum duration of treatment was 6 months; 5 patients received the drug for more than 1 year, and the last 3 for more than 18 months. An antihypertensive effect of butofilolol was observed in 11 of 18 cases.
