While previous research has linked physical activity (PA) with lower prescription medication consumption, limited evidence has investigated sedentary time (ST) as a major contributor to medication use, despite ST's known association with chronic disease and mortality risk, even when PA volume is considered. This study aimed to examine the independent associations between objectively measured ST, patterns of sedentary bouts, and self-reported prescription medication use among adults ≥25 years of age. Thirty-two participants reported the number and type of medications they were currently prescribed and wore an accelerometer continuously on their hip for seven days to detect their ST.

Nanoplasmonic Photoelectron Rescattering in the Multiphoton-Induced Emission Regime.

In strong-field laser-matter interactions, energetic electrons can be created by photoemission and a subsequent rescattering and can attain energy as much as 10 times the ponderomotive potential (U_{p}) of the laser field. Here, we show that with the unique combination of infrared laser sources (exploiting the quadratic scaling of U_{p}) and plasmonic nanoemitters (which enhance rescattering probability by orders of magnitude) ∼10U_{p} rescattered electrons can be observed in the multiphoton-induced regime. Our experiments correspond well to a model based on the time dependent Schrödinger equation and allowed us to reveal an unexpected aspect of ultrafast electron dynamics in the multiphoton emission regime.

Simulators are widely used in medical education, but objective and automatic assessment is not feasible with low-fidelity simulators, which can be solved with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) solutions. The effectiveness of a custom-made VR simulator and an AI-based evaluator of a laparoscopic peg transfer exercise was investigated. Sixty medical students were involved in a single-blinded randomised controlled study to compare the VR simulator with the traditional box trainer.

Distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN) is the earliest detectable and the most frequent microvascular complication in diabetes mellitus. Several studies have previously demonstrated correlations between cardiovascular risk factors in diabetic patients and independent risk factors for diabetic neuropathy. Our objective was to retrospectively analyze data from diabetic patients in the North-East region of Hungary who underwent neuropathy screening at the Diabetic Neuropathy Center, University of Debrecen, between 2017 and 2021.

Acoustic emission from the compounds [Fe(HB(tz))] and [Fe(Htrz)(trz)]BF was detected during the thermally induced spin transition and is correlated with simultaneously recorded calorimetric signals. We ascribe this phenomenon to elastic waves produced by microstructural and volume changes accompanying the spin transition. Despite the perfect reversibility of the spin state switching (seen by the calorimeter), the acoustic emission activity decreases for successive thermal cycles, revealing thus irreversible microstructural evolution of the samples.

Few-Cycle Surface Plasmon Polaritons.

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) can confine and guide light in nanometer volumes and are ideal tools for achieving electric field enhancement and the construction of nanophotonic circuitry. The realization of the highest field strengths and fastest switching requires confinement also in the temporal domain. Here, we demonstrate a tapered plasmonic waveguide with an optimized grating structure that supports few-cycle surface plasmon polaritons with >70 THz bandwidth while achieving >50% light-field-to-plasmon coupling efficiency.
