We report the case of a 61-year-old woman with a collision cancer of primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma in the stomach that was cured surgically. She achieved complete remission after treatment (R-CHOP and radiation therapy;40.8Gy/22Fr) for a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of diffuse large B cell type from September 2016 to April 2017.

However, some patients will have "end-of-dose failure," which may be seen as an increase of episodes of severe pain flares at the third day after application of the patch. A new once-a-day fentanyl patch was developed in Japan since 2010.

A phase III trial conducted in the United States demonstrated that duloxetine was effective for CIPN caused by taxane and platinum-based chemotherapy. No randomized trial of duloxetine for CIPN has been conducted in Japan.

During case conferences held twice a week, we routinely evaluate the referred patients. In our case conferences, we selected patients who were referred to our palliative care division from other hospitals, with possible indications for cancer chemotherapies.

More than 30 years have passed since the introduction of the concept of palliative care in cancer care in Japan. However, the majority of the estimated three million cancer patients in Japan do not receive palliative care. Higashi Sapporo Hospital was established in 1983 as a hospital specialized in cancer care.

Methods: We retrospectively included 53 Japanese community and tertiary hospitals to investigate the relationship between the newly developed PEG and consecutive dementia patients with swallowing difficulty between Jan 1st 2006 and Dec 31st 2008. We set improvements in 1) the level of independent living, 2) pneumonia, 3) peroral intake as outcome measures of QOL and explored the factors associated with these improvements.
Background: During tube exchange for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), a misplaced tube can cause peritonitis and death. Thus, endoscopic or radiologic observation is required at tube exchange to make sure the tube is placed correctly. However, these procedures cost extensive time and money to perform in all patients at the time of tube exchange.

This study aimed to determine whether covering the PEG tube with a sheath that could be detached in the stomach could help prevent peristomal infection.
Methods: In three community hospitals in Japan, data from 449 patients with swallowing dysfunction were prospectively collected between March 2000 and February 2002 for non-covered PEG (n=206) and between March 2002 and February 2004 for covered PEG (n=243).
Thrombocytopenia is well known to be one of the clinical manifestations of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). However, there exist cases in which the cause of thrombocytopenia has been unexplained. Recently, thrombopoietin (TPO) from bone marrow (BM) stromal cells and transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta from platelets and megakaryocytes have been identified as strong positive and negative regulators of megakaryopoiesis in vivo.

To explain this phenomenon, we hypothesized that granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) administration may induce transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta producing T cells in the donors. Five donors received 10 microg/kg G-CSF subcutaneously for 4 days.
