SHPT progresses from initial diffuse hyperplasia (diffuse) to early nodularity (early), then to multinodular hyperplasia (nodular), and finally to a single nodule (single) consisting of uniform parenchymal cells. We analyzed the roles of proliferation and apoptosis in SHPT progression.
