Intra- and inter-observer reliability of implant positioning evaluation on a CT-based three-dimensional postoperative matching system for total knee arthroplasty.

Background: The evaluation of postoperative total knee arthroplasty (TKA) alignment mainly relies on measurement data obtained from plain radiographs. The aim of this retrospective observational study was to document the intra- and inter-observer reliability in assessment of TKA component positioning after surgery using a three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) image matching system.

Methods: Fourteen knees from 14 patients who received primary TKA were included, and images were analyzed by blinded readers not associated with the surgeries.

In vivo kinematic determination of total knee arthroplasty from squatting to standing.

This study analyzed three dimensional (3D) in vivo kinematic data from the squatting to standing position for 18 Japanese subjects (18 knees) implanted with either Legacy((R)) Posterior Stabilized (LPS) Flex Fixed Bearing TKA or LPS Flex Mobile Bearing TKA. Under weight-bearing conditions, for all patients, the average roll-forward motions for the medial and lateral condyles were 4.0+/-3.

Spontaneous osteonecrosis of the lateral femoral condyle of the knee: a report of 11 cases.

Background: Spontaneous osteonecrosis (SON) of the lateral femoral condyle of the knee joint is very rare and there have been only a few articles about this condition.

Materials: We reviewed data for 11 patients (7 men, 4 women) with unusual SON of the lateral femoral condyle of the knee. The average age of patients at onset was 61.

Recurrent hemarthrosis after knee joint arthroplasty: etiology and treatment.

This study reports the results for 10 patients with recurrent hemarthrosis after knee joint arthroplasty. The average interval between arthroplasty and the first instance of hemarthrosis was at 26 months, and the average number of hemarthroses per patient was 3.8.
