A 69-year-old female patient underwent a choledochojejunostomy for unresectable duodenal papilla cancer with para-aortic lymph node metastases. Both tegafur-uracil(UFT) and cyclophosphamide were given orally every day after surgery. Twenty-eight months from the initiation of the chemotherapy the tumor had remarkably reduced and the objective response was evaluated as a PR.

In October 2004, a 73-year-old man underwent loop ileostomy because of unresectable peritoneal disseminated sigmoid colon cancer with liver metastasis. The oral chemotherapy by S-1 was administered(80 mg/day for 4 weeks followed by a 2-week rest period). A half year later, the primary lesion was remarkably diminished on barium enema, and peritoneal dissemination and liver metastasis disappeared on CT.

A 53-year-old man was admitted hospital because of frequent vomiting and poor digestion. Abdominal computed tomography showed a tumor, about 5 cm in diameter at the duodeno-jejunal junction. A barium contrast duodeno-small bowel series revealed stenosis in the therd portion, where push enteroscopy could not pass with normal mucosa.

The patient was a 66-year-old man who had advanced gastric cancer with metastasis to liver and lymph nodes. He received daily oral administration of 100 mg of TS-1 for 28 days followed by 14 days rest as one treatment course. After 2 coures, regression of the primary lesion and reduction in size of the liver and lymph metastases were observed.

TS-1 is a novel oral anticancer drug that is a formation of 5-FU. It consists of tegafur, CDHP (which inhibits 5-FU degradation enzyme), and Oxo (which reduces gastrointestinal toxicities) for an increased anticancer effect. We applied individual TS-1 therapy in 22 cases (cs) of inoperable gastric cancer and studied the clinical and adverse effects.
