In patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing haemodialysis, hypertension is of common detection and frequently inadequately controlled. Multiple pathophysiological mechanisms are involved in the development and progression of the ESRD-related high blood pressure state, which has been implicated in the increased cardiovascular risk reported in this hypertensive clinical phenotype. Renal sympathetic efferent and afferent nerves play a relevant role in the development and progression of elevated blood pressure values in patients with ESRD, often leading to resistant hypertension.

The pathophysiology of post-traumatic brain injury (TBI) behavioral and cognitive changes is not fully understood, especially in its mild presentation. We designed a weight drop TBI model in mice to investigate the role of neuroinflammation in behavioral and cognitive sequelae following mild TBI. C57BL/6 mice displayed depressive-like behavior at 72 h after mild TBI compared with controls, as indicated by a decrease in the latency to first immobility and climbing time in the forced swim test.

Methods: This survey was jointly performed by the GISE Young Committee with the support of the SICI-GISE Society and the ICOT group with the aim of evaluating the view of the cardiology community on interventional therapies for arterial hypertension and HF.
Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) often courses with cognitive deficits, but its underlying neuronal basis remains unclear. Confluent data suggest that epilepsy share pathophysiological mechanisms with neurodegenerative diseases. However, as most studies analyze subjects 60 years old and older, it is challenging to rule out that neurodegenerative changes arise from age-related mechanisms rather than epilepsy in these individuals.
