Liver extracellular matrix-based models that precisely reproduce liver physiology and functions are required as 3D culture microenvironments for multiple applications in toxicology and metabolism, or for understanding the mechanisms implicated in liver disease. We introduced injectable gelatin-chondroitin sulphate (Gel/CS) hydrogels for culturing HepG2 cells, and evaluated the mechanical properties and functionality of cells in different Gel/CS compositions. The Gel/CS hydrogels exhibited soft mechanical properties and allowed the HepG2 culture.

Background: Infection outbreaks associated with contaminated reusable duodenoscopes (RUDs) have induced the development of novel single-use duodenoscopes (SUDs). This study aimed to analyze the material composition and life cycle assessment (LCA) of RUDs and SUDs to assess the sustainability of global and partial SUD implementation.

Methods: A single-center study evaluated material composition analysis and LCA of one RUD and two SUDs from different manufacturers (A/B).

Ironically, healthcare systems are key agents in respiratory-related diseases and estimated deaths because of the high impact of their greenhouse gas emissions, along with industry, transportation, and housing. Based on safety requirements, hospitals and related services use an extensive number of consumables, most of which end up incinerated at the end of their life cycle. A thorough assessment of the carbon footprint of such devices typically requires knowing precise information about the manufacturing process, which is rarely available in detail because of the many materials, pieces, and steps involved during the fabrication.

The performance of first-year students in electromagnetism (E&M) courses of different engineering degrees at a Spanish public university was measured using the Brief Electricity and Magnetism Assessment (BEMA), a standard research-based instrument to assess students' understanding after attending introductory courses in electricity and magnetism. In all cases, Flipped classroom (FC) built on information and communications technology was used. The objective of this paper is to analyse if the gain in the BEMA pre and post-test results is influenced by several factors such as the degree, the students' academic grade, and gender.

The influence of the inclusion of the organic solvent propylene carbonate (PC) in microporous membranes based on poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(vinylidene fluoride--hexafluoropropylene) P(VDF-HFP) has been studied based on its relevance for the application of those separator membranes in lithium-ion batteries. The membranes have been produced through solvent casting and characterized with respect to the swelling ratio originated by the uptake of the organic solvent. The organic solvent uptake affects the porous microstructure and crystalline phase of both membrane types.

Objectives: GI endoscopy units represent the third largest producers of medical waste. We aimed to determine endoscopic instrument composition and life cycle assessment (LCA) and to assess a sustainability proposal based on a mark on the instruments that identifies parts can be safely recycled or ''.

Design: Material composition analysis and LCA of forceps, snares and clips from four different manufacturers (A-D) were performed with four different methods.

This paper shows the data of the Flip Teaching and Traditional Methodology on the laboratory practice in two subjects, Physics and Electricity, of a technical degree. The laboratory and final grades of these subjects were shown in four consecutive years. The characteristics of all four years were quite similar, except that the Traditional teaching Methodology (TM) was used in two, while Flip Teaching methodology (FT) was applied in the other two.

The objective of this work was to estimate patient doses (dose-area product, organ dose, effective dose and entrance surface dose) for barium procedures. A total of 175 procedures, in 175 patients, for five different examination categories was analysed. Dose-area product was determined using a transmission ionization chamber.

Nowadays, the radiological risk from simple X-ray procedures is well known. The purpose of this work has been to estimate the population risk from digital angiographic and interventional procedures and to compare it with the one from simple procedures in the same population. The population risk has been estimated according to the following quantities: genetically significant dose, somatic significant dose, collective effective dose, annual per caput effective dose and detriment.
