Oxidative stress levels are exacerbated in Alzheimer's disease (AD). This phenomenon feeds back into the overactivation of oxidase enzymes, mitochondrial dysfunction, and the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), with the stimulation of their receptors (RAGE). These factors stimulate Aβ peptide aggregation and tau hyperphosphorylation through multiple pathways, which are addressed in this paper.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and neurodegenerative illness which results in alterations in cognitive development. It is characterized by loss/dysfunction of cholinergic neurons, and formation of amyloid plaques, and formation of neurofibrillary tangles, among other changes, due to hyperphosphorylation of tau-protein. Exposure to pesticides in humans occurs frequently due to contact with contaminated food, water, or particles.

Pesticides are chemicals used in agricultural fields for the prevention or destruction of pests. Inappropriate use of these substances, as well as handling them without using personal protective equipment, may result in serious health problems such as neurodegenerative diseases and mental disorders. Previous studies have demonstrated the adverse effects of pesticides on brain function.

Pesticides are chemical substances used to control, prevent, or destroy agricultural, domestic, and livestock pests. These compounds produce adverse changes in health, and they have been associated with the development of multiple chronic diseases. This study aimed to present a detailed review of the effect of pesticides on the oral cavity and the oral microbiome.

Background: The region of La Cienega in Jalisco Mexico, is an important agricultural reference for the production of corn, sorghum and wheat, among other grains, so the use of pesticides for pest control is high. However, in this rural area there are no toxicological studies that assess the occupational risk of pesticide use. Therefore, this study is the first to determine the oxidative stress levels markers (GSH, GSSG, carbonyl groups, nitric oxide metabolites and lipid peroxides) as well as alteration of the mitochondrial membrane fluidity caused by occupational exposure to organophosphorus and carbamates in farmers of this region.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide; both environmental and genetic factors are involved in the etiology of this neoplasia. The human epidermal receptor (HER) pathway is essential for proliferation and differentiation of normal cells; but it is also implicated in the growth of cancer cells. In this work we investigate the molecular alterations in genes that encodes for HER receptors reported in GC, as well the role as therapeutic targets.

Introduction: Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and is divided histologically in diffuse gastric cancer (DGC) and intestinal gastric cancer (IGC). Multiple risk factors have been associated with GC in different populations. The objective was to analyze the risk factors associated to DGC and IGC in a population from the western region of Mexico.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the third worldwide leading cause of cancer-related death affecting both sexes. The aberrant expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene has been detected in many human epithelial malignancies and linked to advanced disease, more aggressive phenotype, and poor prognosis.

Aims: To analyze the relation that the expression of EGFR in gastric tumors holds with pathological characteristics and with the germline polymorphisms -216 G>T, -191 C>A, (CA) n IVS1, and R521K.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein with tyrosine-kinase activity that plays an important role in multiple cellular functions. EGFR overexpression has been observed in several types of tumors and it is significantly associated with disease stage, survival, prognosis, and progression of cancer. The polymorphisms -216G>T, -191C>A, and (CA)n first intervening sequence (IVS1) have been related to EGFR overexpression and have been studied in several types of cancer, but not in gastric cancer (GC).

The proto-oncogenes epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and erythroblastic leukemia viral oncogene homolog 2 (ERBB2), are involved in the development of diverse malignant tumors, including gastric cancer. We analyzed the association of SNPs EGFR-R521K and ERBB2-I655V with gastric cancer and premalignant gastric lesions in Mexican patients. Through restriction fragment length polymorphisms, we analyze both SNPs in the DNA from 155 patients with gastric cancer and premalignant gastric lesions, 121 controls, and 103 people from the Mexican general population.

In this work, the genetic and molecular alterations involved in gastric carcinogenesis are shown; the affected genes are those that encoded for matrix metalloproteinases, cell growth factors and receptors, oncogenes, tumor suppressors, DNA repair and cell adhesion molecule genes, cell cycle regulators and others related to metastasis, as well as lost of heterozygosity in chromosomal regions.
