Melamine paper is a basic material used in the furniture industry for home and office interiors. Contact allergic dermatitis from melamine formaldehyde resins (MFRs) should be considered in patients who work on melamine paper impregnation lines. We report a case of a 28-year-old female plywood worker who developed eczema on the dorsal side of her hands and wrists after 2 years of working on the melamine paper impregnation line.

Recurrent vulvovaginitis is a common problem in clinical practice. Management is often complicated by a long history of inappropriate treatments based on tentative diagnoses after an incomplete diagnostic workup. We review the most common causes of recurrent vulvovaginitis; the appropriate steps with which to establish a diagnosis, from the medical history through to the additional tests needed; and, finally, the best therapeutic options.

We describe the case of a 56-year-old man with a 6-month history of painful generalized erythematous edematous plaques. Histopathology indicated neutrophilic dermatosis but the patient did not have fever, elevated white blood cell count, or systemic involvement.

Each location was visited on 3 trading or slaughter days, and tattoo presence and readability of porkers (25 to 60 kg of BW), baconers (60 to 90 kg of BW), backfatters (>90 kg of BW but not for breeding), and breeders were recorded. A total of 4,655 pigs were inspected, including 158 DS, 1,599 ES, 1,257 DA, and 1,641 EA.

Fusarium spp. are emergent opportunistic moulds capable of producing life-threatening diseases, usually in immunocompromised hosts. When they infect immunocompetent patients, they usually cause localized diseases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA field study was conducted on a 2,300-sow piggery in southwestern New South Wales, Australia, over a 17-wk period (from weaning at 4 wk of age) to assess the suitability for lifetime traceability of weaners of 4 identification devices: 1) full duplex ear tag (FDX, Allflex), 2) half duplex ear tag designed for cattle (HDX, Leadertronic), 3) conventional ear tag (Leader), and 4) ear tattoo (Ketchum ear tattoo 101). Visual readability, retention rate, electronic failures, and adverse side effects were assessed at 8 wk after application at both sites and before slaughter at 14 or 17 wk after application at site A and site B, respectively. A total of 394 weaner pigs were randomly assigned after weaning to 6 treatment groups and reared either in small groups in intensive, indoor, concrete-based pens (n = 224; site A) or in a large group on deep litter (n = 170; site B).

Procedure: Seven methods for estimating prevalence of infection based on PFC results were incorporated in a computer program, including methods for imperfect test sensitivity and specificity, for variable pool size and a Bayesian method that incorporates prior knowledge about test performance and prevalence. These methods were then used to analyse PFC data at one observation 30 months post-vaccination in a field trial of a killed vaccine for the control of OJD, undertaken on three farms in New South Wales.

Filiform hyperkeratosis (FH) is a rare entity clinically characterized by keratotic spicules on the palms, soles or other areas of the body surface. Its association with several diseases, including neoplasms, has been extensively discussed but currently it is not considered a well-defined paraneoplastic disorder. We report a 72-year-old patient that referred lesions on both palms of three months duration.

Procedure: A review of the identification and traceability legislation applicable to pigs in Australia was undertaken over a 6 month period. The appropriate legislative Acts and Regulations were downloaded from the Australasian Legal Information Institute internet site (http://www.
We conducted a cross-sectional study in 2004-2005 to investigate risk factors for ovine Johne's disease (OJD) involving 92 infected Merino sheep flocks in Australia. In each enrolled flock we collected pooled faecal-samples from 3- to 5-year-old sheep and cultured them for Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) to determine their OJD status.

HIV infection may change the classic clinical course of syphilis and increase the incidence of a subtype of secondary syphilis named malignant syphilis. A homosexual patient with HIV infection consulted us about a one-month history of general malaise and widespread cutaneous ulcerative lesions, some with thick hemorrhagic crusts.

Many cases reported in the literature develop in patients with upper limb lymphedema secondary to mastectomy, radiotherapy, keloids or scleroderma. Clinically they consist of traslucent vesicles in a chronic lymphedematous area.

Western blot analysis was performed on samples in which there was discrepancy between the results. Information regarding breed, age, gender, housing arrangement and health status were recorded for all pet and cattery-confined cats, while the estimated age and current physical condition were recorded for feral cats.
