Twenty four hour blood pressure and ECG monitoring, assessment of sexual function (questionnaires, penile artery Doppler flowmetry) were carried out in male hypertensives treated with atenolol, metoprolol, or bisoprolol. Compared with atenolol and metoprolol bisoprolol was found to be more effective and safe. The use of bisoprolol was associated with no negative changes and even with improvement of some parameters of sexual function.
