Background: Melanoma is the most aggressive skin cancer with ability to recur also after early-stage tumor surgery. The aim was to identify early-stage melanoma patients at high risk of recurrence using liquid biopsy, estimating of mutated BRAF ctDNA and the level of tumor marker S100B in plasma.
Methods: Eighty patients were enrolled in the study.
Background/aim: The management of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) includes prognosis assessment based on TNM classification and biochemical markers. This approach stratifies patients with advanced ccRCC into groups of favorable, intermediate, and poor prognosis. The aim of the study was to improve prognosis estimation using microRNAs involved in the pathogenesis of ccRCC.

However, their sensitivity and specificity are low for diagnostic and prognostic evaluation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of biomarkers reflecting biological activity of tumors - tissue polypeptide specific antigen (TPS), cytokeratin fragment 19 (CYFRA 21-1), thymidine kinase (TK), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGF-BP3) - together with the CEA and CA 19-9 in CRC diagnosis and prognosis.

The case study presented here aims at sheding light on the correlation between vitamin D levels, the vitamin D supplement dose, and the incidence of ARTIs.
Case Report: A 23-year-old female patient with a vitamin D insufficiency was able to successfully increase her vitamin D levels from 45.
Background: Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men. Detection methods include the measurement of biomarkers: prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free PSA, [-2]proPSA, and the calculated indices: fPSA/tPSA ratio and Prostate Health Index (PHI). Proper preanalytical conditions are crucial for precise measurement and failure to adhere to protocols or regulations can influence the diagnostic algorithm.

The majority of mCRPC patients are elderly suffering from chronic co-morbidities requiring use of various concomitant medications. In the present study, we focused on impact of concomitant antihypertensive medication on the outcomes of mCRPC patients treated with ENZ or ABI.

Often mistaken for leukoplakia or erythroleukoplakia due to their appearance, these lesions display nonhomogeneous textures featuring combinations of white and red hyperplastic or nodular surfaces. Predominant locations for such lesions include the tongue, retro-angular mucosa, and buccal mucosa.

Methods: In this prospective, randomized study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of one and two booster doses of mRNA vaccines (either mRNA-1273 or BNT162b2) in 125 COVID-19 naive, adult kidney transplant recipients who showed an insufficient humoral response (SARS-CoV-2 IgG <10 AU/ml) to the previous 2-dose vaccination schedule.
The anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a glycoprotein that plays an important role in prenatal sex differentiation. It is used as a biomarker in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnostics, as well as for estimating an individual's ovarian reserve and the ovarian response to hormonal stimulation during in vitro fertilization (IVF). The aim of this study was to test the stability of AMH during various preanalytical conditions that are in accordance with the ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories) protocol.

Visualizing them as a three-dimensional (3D) model is a challenging, yet relevant, task as it would be of great help to researchers, pathologists, and medical doctors. A branching analysis on the 3D model would further facilitate research and diagnostic purposes.

The recommended dose of vitamin D for the adult population in Central Europe is 800-2000 IU/day. The aim of our study was to determine whether doses of 1000 IU or 2000 IU of vitamin D are adequate to achieve the sufficiency reference values of [25(OH)D].

The aim of the study was to assess the long-term outcome of mCRPC patients treated with ENZ or AAP in real-life clinical practice.
Patients And Methods: The outcomes of 337 mCRPC patients treated with ENZ or AAP were retrospectively analysed.
Biobanking is becoming increasingly important as a key tool for precision medicine, but neither biobanking nor precision medicine itself have generally been integrated in medical curricula. However, most medical students will encounter these topics in their future careers as physicians or researchers. The European Union (EU)-funded project eduBRoTHER aims to close this gap of professional input.

High-grade gliomas are associated with poor prognosis and modest survival rates despite intensive multimodal treatment strategies. Targeting gene fusions is an emerging therapeutic approach for gliomas that allows application of personalized medicine principles.

We retrospectively evaluated COVID-19 in kidney transplant recipients (n = 226) after BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine administration. The control group consisted of unvaccinated patients (n = 194) during the previous pandemic wave.

A group of 110 patients from the West Bohemian region who had been infected with COVID-19 was monitored for the purposes of this study. We focused on cases of mild or moderate COVID-19; statistically the most likely to occur. Day zero was defined as the day on which a positive PCR test was first established.

Patients And Methods: The study group consisted of 109 patients and 109 healthy controls. The following biomarkers were selected: Carcinoembryonic antigen; cytokeratin fragment 19; neuron-specific enolase; tissue polypeptide-specific antigen; cytokeratin fragments 8, 18 and 19; insulin-like growth factor 1; pro-gastrin-releasing peptide; and 25-hydroxyvitamin D.
Background/aim: This study determined whether computed tomography (CT) is an appropriate means by which to differentiate non-invasive and minimally invasive forms of pulmonary adenocarcinoma from the invasive variant.
Patients And Methods: A total of 64 patients (38 men and 26 women, aged 42-76, mean age 64), who underwent surgery for pulmonary adenocarcinoma and a chest CT no less than 1 month before surgery, were included in the study. Lesions exhibiting ground glass opacity or ground glass opacity with a solid component of 5 mm or smaller, were defined as minimally invasive or non-invasive adenocarcinomas.
Background/aim: The treatment of advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is based on stratification of patients according to prognosis (favorable, intermediate, and poor). The aim of the study was to improve prognostication by biomarkers involved in angiogenesis.
Patients And Methods: The study group consisted of 20 patients who underwent surgery for ccRCC.

The diagnostics of prostate cancer are currently based on three pillars: prostate biomarker panel, imaging techniques, and histological verification. This paper presents a diagnostic algorithm that can serve as a "road map": from initial patient stratification to the final decision regarding treatment. The algorithm is based on a review of the current literature combined with our own experience.
