Disaster eHealth: Scoping Review.

Background: Although both disaster management and disaster medicine have been used for decades, their efficiency and effectiveness have been far from perfect. One reason could be the lack of systematic utilization of modern technologies, such as eHealth, in their operations. To address this issue, researchers' efforts have led to the emergence of the disaster eHealth (DEH) field.

Consent and widespread access to personal health information for the delivery of care: a large scale telephone survey of consumers' attitudes using vignettes in New Zealand.

Objectives: In light of recent health policy, to examine factors which influence the public's willingness to consent to share their health information in a national electronic health record (EHR).

Design: Data were collected in a national telephone survey in 2008. Respondents were presented with vignettes that described situations in which their health information was shared and asked if they would consent to such sharing.

Healthcare in Disasters and the Role of RFID.

Disasters either natural or man-made are inevitable, and therefore disaster management has always been an important function of government. Since during a disaster healthcare is often adversely affected, a lot of effort has been made in terms of researching effective responses and ways of improving the quality of delivered care to direct casualties and the rest of the community. In this regard, information technology plays an important role to help healthcare systems achieve this goal.

Mobile technologies and the holistic management of chronic diseases.

Ageing populations and unhealthy lifestyles have led to some chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease reaching epidemic proportions in many developed nations. This paper explores the potential of mobile technologies to improve this situation. The pervasive nature of these technologies can contribute holistically across the whole spectrum of chronic care ranging from public information access and awareness, through monitoring and treatment of chronic disease, to support for patient carers.

The strategic management of data quality in healthcare.

This research extends and tests principles to establish good practice and overcome practical barriers in the strategic management of data quality. The research explores the issues that define and control data quality in national health data collections and the mechanisms and frameworks that can be developed to achieve and sustain good data quality. The aim is to make the strategic management of data quality, and the prevention of persistent errors, everyday, ;institutionalized' activities.

Change management and the sustainability of health ICT projects.

The development of the electronic health record (EHR) is a strategic and important enabler of the delivery of integrated healthcare. As each innovative aspect of the EHR is implemented in New Zealand, long-term success is essential for its overall sustainability on the national scale. How we achieve this success is dependent upon how people adapt to the changes brought about by the implementation of these innovations.

Opportunities and barriers for mobile health in New Zealand.

Ownership and the use of mobile technologies greatly exceed those of personal desktop computer systems and countries throughout the world are beginning to understand how these technologies can enhance the delivery of healthcare (m-health). This paper reviews the opportunities and barriers for m-health and describes a study to understand its potential in New Zealand. A survey consisting of a questionnaire and in-depth interviews was used to reveal clinician and service provider attitudes to m-health.

Telehealth in New Zealand: current practice and future prospects.

We have surveyed the current state of telehealth in New Zealand. The survey found 22 telehealth projects active in 2003, compared with 12 identified in a previous survey in 2000. Many projects were small, localized and led by enthusiasts.
