Adequate sampling is essential to an accurate pathologic evaluation of pancreatectomy specimens resected for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) after neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). However, limited data are available for the association between the sampling and survival in these patients. We examined the association of the entire submission of the tumor (ESOT) and the entire submission of the pancreas (ESOP) with disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS), as well as their correlations with clinicopathologic features, for 627 patients with PDAC who received NAT and pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of two asparaginase formulations, PEG-ASNase and L-ASNase, in treating adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) over a three-year period.
  • Retrospective analysis included 65 adult ALL patients, assessing enzyme activity, asparagine levels, and adverse reactions using various testing methods.
  • Results showed that PEG-ASNase had a longer duration of activity, higher safety profile, and better event-free survival rates compared to L-ASNase, though both had similar remission rates; adverse reactions were generally more common in the L-ASNase group.

The frozen period interaction of groundwater and lakes is crucial for hydrological properties and aquatic ecology in cold and arid regions. In this study, we investigate the spatial hydrochemical characteristics, influencing factors in the Hulun Lake basin. The hydrochemical type of lake water exhibits Na-HCO-SO-Cl, while river shows a primary classification of Na-Ca-HCO.

A novel Ru(II) complex with a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) ligand was designed and synthesized to prepare organic memory devices. The fabricated Ru(II) complex-based devices exhibited obvious bipolar resistance switching behavior with a low switching voltage (∼1.13 V) and a large ON/OFF ratio (10).

Neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel (GemNP) therapies are increasingly used to treat patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, limited data are available on their clinicopathologic prognosticators. We examined the clinicopathologic factors and survival of 213 PDAC patients who received FOLFIRINOX with 71 patients who received GemNP.

Brain-inspired neuromorphic computing systems with the potential to drive the next wave of artificial intelligence demand a spectrum of critical components beyond simple characteristics. An emerging research trend is to achieve advanced functions with ultracompact neuromorphic devices. In this work, a single-transistor neuron is demonstrated that implements excitatory-inhibitory (E-I) spatiotemporal integration and a series of essential neuron behaviors.

1,3-Allyl and 1,2-allyl shifts through [3,3]- and [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangements are well-established and widely used in organic synthesis. In contrast, 1,5-allyl shift through related [3,5]-sigmatropic rearrangement is unknown because [3,5]-sigmatropic rearrangement is thermally Woodward-Hoffmann forbidden. Herein, we report an unexpected discovery of a formal 1,5-allyl shift of allyl furfuryl alcohol through a 2-step sequential rearrangement.

Memristors with nonvolatile memory properties are expected to open the era of neuromorphic computing. However, it remains a huge challenge to develop memristors with high uniformity, high stability, and low power consumption for advanced synaptic bionics. Herein, an electroactive iridium(III) complex was designed and synthesized by incorporating a viologen moiety into its NN ligand.

Emerging and re-emerging RNA viruses occasionally cause epidemics and pandemics worldwide, such as the on-going outbreak of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Herein, we identified two potent inhibitors of human DHODH, S312 and S416, with favorable drug-likeness and pharmacokinetic profiles, which all showed broad-spectrum antiviral effects against various RNA viruses, including influenza A virus, Zika virus, Ebola virus, and particularly against SARS-CoV-2. Notably, S416 is reported to be the most potent inhibitor so far with an EC of 17 nmol/L and an SI value of 10,505.

Triterpenoids, the major bioactive ingredients of Ilicis Rotundae Cortex, contributes a significant cardiovascular protection activity. Although many studies about the total saponins have been reported, the absorption triterpenoids and pharmacokinetic behaviors were unclear. Thus, the present study aims to comprehensive elucidate the absorption triterpenoids and their pharmacokinetics in rats after oral administration the crude extract using UPLC/Q-TOF-MS/MS.

First-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors, gefitinib and erlotinib, have achieved initially marked clinical efficacy for nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR activating mutations. However, their clinical benefit was limited by the emergence of acquired resistance mutations. In most cases (approximately 60%), the resistance was caused by the secondary EGFR T790M gatekeeper mutation.

Memristive devices, having a huge potential as artificial synapses for low-power neural networks, have received tremendous attention recently. Despite great achievements in demonstration of plasticity and learning functions, little progress has been made in the repeatable analog resistance states of memristive devices, which is, however, crucial for achieving controllable synaptic behavior. The controllable behavior of synapse is highly desired in building neural networks as it helps reduce training epochs and diminish error probability.

Oxaliplatin is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent that induces both acute and chronic peripheral neuropathy. Based on previous research indicating that estrogen replacement may attenuate some forms of pain in ovariectomized animals, we examined the effects of 17β-estradiol in OXAIPN. We discovered that local cold exposure induces an abnormal vascular response in both acute and chronic models of OXAIPN (oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy) that may be used as an easy and non-invasive method to predict which patients may be susceptible to the development of severe, chronic OXAIPN.

Angelica sinensis has been used to attenuate cold-induced cutaneous vasospasm syndrome, such as Raynaud's disease and frostbite, in China for many years. Ferulic acid (PubChem CID: 445858) and Z-ligustilide (PubChem CID: 529865), two major components extracted from Angelica sinensis, had been reported to inhibit vasoconstriction induced by vasoconstrictors. In this study, the pharmacological interaction in regulating cold-induced vascular smooth muscle cell contraction via cold-sensing protein TRPM8 and TRPA1 was analyzed between ferulic acid and Z-ligustilide.

EGFR-targeted inhibitors (gefitinib and erlotinib) provided an effective strategy for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer. However, the EGFR T790M secondary mutation has become a leading cause of clinically acquired resistance to these agents. Herein, on the basis of the previously reported irreversible EGFR inhibitor (compound 9), we present a structure-based design approach, which is rationalized via analyzing its binding model and comparing the differences of gatekeeper pocket between the T790M mutant and wild-type (WT) EGFR kinases.

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is one of the most common mitochondrial disorders. We report here the clinical, genetic and molecular analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in eight Han Chinese families carrying the known mitochondrial 11778G > A(MT-ND4) mutation. Thirty-seven (26 males/11 females) of 77 matrilineal relatives in these families exhibited the variable severity and age-at-onset of optic neuropathy.

The advent of flexible optoelectronic devices has accelerated the development of semiconducting polymeric materials. We seek to replace conventional expensive semiconducting photodetector materials with our cost-effective composite system. We demonstrate in this work the successful fabrication of a photoconductive composite film of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) mixed with NaYF4:Yb,Er nanophosphors that exhibited a ultrahigh photoresponse to infrared radiation.
