As an essential component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cartilage, the α2 chain of type IX collagen (Col9a2), has been implicated in human intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). However, the precise role of the Col9a2 gene in the pathogenesis of IVDD has remained elusive. In the present study, the spines of Col9a2-deficient (Col9a2) mice were systematically analyzed and compared with wild-type control mice using micro-CT (µCT), histomorphology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR).

Knee osteoarthritis-associated bone marrow edema-like lesions (KOA-BMLs) is a common MRI imaging feature, which is mainly manifested as abnormal bone marrow hyperintensity in subchondral bone on T2 imaging. The formation of KOA-BMLs may be related to the abnormality of lower limb force line and subchondral bone perfusion, and related histopathological studies showed that the remodeling of bone and bone marrow in these damaged areas was abnormally increased. In KOA patients, the size of BMLs can fluctuate or even disappear in a relatively short period of time, and was closely related to pain, subchondral bone cyst formation, and the progression of KOA.

Methods: First, active ingredients and related targets of LWDHD, as well as related genes of IVDD, were collected from public databases. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) functional enrichment analyses were performed to predict the core targets and pathways of LWDHD against IVDD.
To investigate the correlation between gene mutation and knee osteoarthritis (KOA), a whole-exome sequencing (WES) was applied to analyze blood samples of four KOA patients and two normal subjects in a family. Gene mutations were identified by gene-trapping and high-throughput sequencing analysis across the differences between the patients and normal subjects. The interactive gene network analysis on the retrieval of interacting genes (STRING) database and the KOA-related genes expression data sets was performed.

Methods: We conducted a cohort study at the Paediatric Nephrology Centre, the designated site providing kidney replacement therapy (KRT) for children in Hong Kong. The clinical characteristics and outcomes of all children who initiated chronic KRT before 19 years, between 2001 and 2020, were analysed.
Background: The Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 protein, a multi-transmembrane domain molecule, is critical for intestinal cholesterol absorption, and is the entry factor for hepatitis C virus (HCV). The Chinese tree shrew (Tupaia belangeri chinensis) is closer to primates in terms of genetic evolution than rodents. Previous studies indicated that the tree shrew was suitable for HCV research; however, little is known about tree shrew NPC1L1.

Considering their high propensity for being degraded in the human body, the choice of an appropriate delivery system is key to ensure the therapeutic efficacy of biomacromolecular drugs . As an emerging class of supramolecular "host" materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit advantages in terms of the tunability of pore size, encapsulation efficiency, controllable drug release, simplicity in surface functionalization and good biocompatibility.

We report the structure, function, and antigenicity of its full-length spike (S) trimer as well as those of the Gamma and Kappa variants, and compare their characteristics with the G614, Alpha, and Beta variants. Delta S can fuse membranes more efficiently at low levels of cellular receptor angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), and its pseudotyped viruses infect target cells substantially faster than the other five variants, possibly accounting for its heightened transmissibility.

Corrective repair with atrial switch (Senning technique), intracardiac baffle, and right ventricle outflow reconstruction was successfully performed with challenges from altered anatomical location and orientation of the heart and abnormal coronary artery.

Tumor cells lacking LKB1 display an aggressive phenotype, with uncontrolled cell growth and higher energetic and redox stress due to its failure to balance ATP and NADPH levels in response to cellular stimulus. The identification of effective therapeutic regimens for patients with LKB1-deficient non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a major clinical need.

Saliva is a vital mediator in the oral cavity. The dysbiosis of free bacteria in saliva might be related to the onset, development, prognosis, and recurrence of periodontal diseases, but this potential relationship is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential roles of the free salivary microbiome in different periodontal statuses, their reaction to nonsurgical periodontal therapy, and differences between diseased individuals after treatment and healthy persons.

Surgical treatment is the main treatment for hemophilia arthritis, including synoviectomy, joint replacement and joint fusion. Synoviectomy is suitable for early hemophilia synovitis, and is divided into radiation, chemical, arthroscopy, and open operation. Common mechanisms for p53 loss in cancer include expression of p53-negative regulators such as MDM2, which mediate the degradation of wildtype p53 (p53α), and inactivating mutations in the TP53 gene. Currently, approaches to overcome p53 deficiency in these cancers are limited.
