The hyaluronan (HA) matrix in the tissue microenvironment is crucial for maintaining homeostasis by regulating inflammatory signalling, endothelial-mesenchymal transition and cell migration. During development, covalent modifications and osmotic swelling of HA create mechanical forces that initiate midgut rotation, vascular patterning and branching morphogenesis. Together with its main cell surface receptor, CD44, HA establishes a physicochemical scaffold at the cell surface that facilitates the interaction and clustering of growth factors and receptors that is required for normal physiology.

Non-invasive in vivo imaging of the vasculature is a powerful tool for studying disease mechanisms in rodents. To achieve high sensitivity imaging of the microvasculature using Doppler ultrasound methods, imaging modalities employing the concept of ultrafast imaging are preferred. By increasing the frame rate of the ultrasound scanner to thousands of frames per second, it becomes possible to improve the sensitivity of the blood flow down to 2 mm/s and to obtain functional information about the microcirculation in comparison to a sensitivity of around 1 cm/s in conventional Doppler modes.

One of the challenges in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) production is the validation of quality control (QC) tests specific for hiPSCs, which are required for GMP batch release. This study presents a comprehensive description of the validation process for hiPSC-specific GMP-compliant QC assays; more specifically, the validation of assays to assess the potential presence of residual episomal vectors (REVs), the expression of markers of the undifferentiated state and the directed differentiation potential of hiPSCs. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) poses a higher risk for complications in South Asian individuals compared to other ethnic groups. To shed light on potential mediating factors, we investigated lipidomic changes in plasma of Dutch South Asians (DSA) and Dutch white Caucasians (DwC) with and without T2DM and explore their associations with clinical features. Using a targeted quantitative lipidomics platform, monitoring over 1000 lipids across 17 classes, along with H NMR based lipoprotein analysis, we studied 51 healthy participants (21 DSA, 30 DwC) and 92 T2DM patients (47 DSA, 45 DwC) from the etic resonance ssessment of za efficacy in the egression of cardiovascular dysfunction in type 2 dbetes mellitus (MAGNA VICTORIA) study.

Fibrotic diseases are characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components leading to disruption of tissue homeostasis. Myofibroblasts as the main ECM-producing cells can originate from various differentiated cell types after injury. Particularly, the process of endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (endMT), describing phenotypic shifts of endothelial cells to adopt a fully mesenchymal identity, may contribute to the pool of myofibroblasts in fibrosis, while leading to capillary rarefaction and exacerbation of tissue hypoxia.
