This combination of individuals' direct environmental chemical exposures and any heritable changes caused by their ancestors' chemical exposures leads to a layered pattern of both direct and ancestrally inherited exposures that might have cumulative effects over generations.

While most incidental findings on breast MRI are benign, identifying metastatic disease can have a substantial impact on staging, prognosis, and treatment.

Observations: During phacoemulsification of the right eye, the patient developed significant proptosis. Following lid speculum removal and mechanical eyelid manipulation, the proptosis resolved within 20 minutes without requiring a lateral canthotomy.

The active form of vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3) [1,25(OH)(2)D(3)], is an endocrine hormone whose classic role is the maintenance of calcium homeostasis. It is well documented that 1,25(OH)(2)D(3) also has anti-tumor effects on a number of cancers and cancer cell lines including breast, colorectal, gastric, liver, ovarian, prostate, and non-melanoma skin cancers. Included in the anti-tumor activities of 1,25(OH)(2)D(3) are its ability to cause antiproliferation, prodifferentation and decrease angiogenesis.

We have sequenced an 81-kb genomic region from the honey bee, Apis mellifera, associated with a quantitative trait locus (QTL) sting-2 for aggressive behavior. This sequence represents the first extensive study of the honey-bee genome structure encompassing putative genes in a QTL for a behavioral trait. Expression of 13 putative genes, as well as two transcripts that were present in a honey-bee EST database, was confirmed through reverse transcription analysis of mRNA from the honey-bee head.

We have sequenced six overlapping clones from a library of bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones derived from a laboratory strain of the mosquito, Anopheles gambiae, the major vector of human malaria in Africa. The resulting uninterrupted 528-kb sequence is from the 8C region of the mosquito 2R chromosome, at or very near the major refractoriness locus associated with melanotic encapsulation of parasites. This sequence represents the first extensive view of the mosquito genome structure encompassing 48 genes.
