Purpose: Diverting ileostomy is related to postoperative high-output stoma (HOS) leading to kidney injury. The purpose of our study was to clarify the risk factors for ileostomy-associated kidney injury, which is kidney injury starting after the first operation to ileostomy closure after colorectal tumor surgery with diverting ileostomy.

Methods: Between January 2013 and December 2020, 442 patients who underwent colorectal tumor surgery (cancer, neuroendocrine tumor, and leiomyosarcoma) following diverting ileostomy formation were included.

This study aimed to investigate the role of sex in the association between physical function and the occurrence of hospitalization and mortality among community-dwelling older adults with impairments in activities of daily living (ADL). Participants included community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years with ADL disabilities. Physical functions (hand grip strength [HGS], knee extension muscle strength, and comfortable walking speed [CWS]) were measured at baseline and analyzed for association with hospitalization and mortality by sex using Cox regression analysis, adjusted for potential confounders.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers used a 5' single-cell RNA sequencing method to identify where enhancer RNAs and other RNA types start in human CD4 T cells, uncovering variations in cell types and their development.
  • By combining these RNA datasets with single-cell chromatin profiles, they found that unique active enhancers and their RNA production are specific to certain cell types and are linked to disease risk.
  • The study created a detailed atlas of these enhancers that helps to understand how genetic variations are related to various immune-mediated diseases.

Background: The accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) is associated with cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the relationship between the AGEs measured by an AGEs sensor noninvasively at the fingertip and prognosis in patients with CVD remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between AGEs score and prognosis among patients with CVD.

Purpose: Walking speed is a useful predictor of hospitalization for community-dwelling older people. However, whether it is an effective predictor for disabled older people has not been clarified. This study aimed to investigate the association of walking speed with unexpected hospitalizations in community-dwelling, disabled, older people.

Advanced glycated end products (AGEs) accumulate systemically and cause diabetes complications. However, whether noninvasive measurable AGEs are associated with diabetes status and physical functions remains unclear. One hundred and ten patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) who underwent outpatient cardiac rehabilitation were included.

Granulomatous appendicitis is uncommon. It can be caused by infectious or systemic disorders, such as Crohn's disease (CD) and sarcoidosis. It is therefore essential to investigate systematic causes of granulomatous appendicitis after surgery by appropriate examinations.

Fungal protease inhibitor F (FPI-F) from silkworm inhibits subtilisin and fungal proteases. FPI-F mutants P(1) residues of which, Thr(29), were replaced with Glu, Phe, Gly, Leu, Met, and Arg, were prepared. The inhibitory activities of mutated FPI-F against subtilisin and other mammalian proteases indicated that FPI-F might be a specific inhibitor toward subtilisin-type protease.
