Marine organisms ingest microplastics directly from water and indirectly from food sources. Ingesting microplastics can lead to the accumulation of plastic-derived chemicals. However, the relative contributions of the two exposure routes to the accumulation of plastic-derived chemicals in organisms are unknown.
