Overlapped Stenting for Treatment of an Extracranial Carotid Artery Aneurysm.

Extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECAAs) are rare, and their treatment is very difficult and challenging. The case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with a pulsatile mass on the left side of her neck, was diagnosed with a left-sided giant thrombosed common carotid artery aneurysm, and underwent definitive treatment by overlapped stenting, is presented. Overlapped stenting is a safe and an effective treatment procedure for ECAA.

Moyamoya disease is commonly diagnosed in children, and requires various vascular reconstruction to improve symptoms. Therefore, scar widening and hair loss after craniotomy, which sometimes occurs in this disease, are serious problems for patients. A variety of plastic surgical techniques in scalp have been reported to minimize the scar widening and hair loss.

Endovascular microcatheter provocation test for the diagnosis of glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

Objective: Glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GN) is a rare disease often clinically misdiagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia. An endovascular provocative test has been applied to assist in making the diagnosis of GN caused by vascular compression. We similarly used endovascular provocative techniques to identify the causative vessel and to evaluate the indication for microvascular decompression (MVD) in two patients.

Reconstruction of intracranial vertebral artery with radial artery and occipital artery grafts for fusiform intracranial vertebral aneurysm not amenable to endovascular treatment: technical note.

Background: Symptomatic fusiform intracranial vertebral artery aneurysms pose a formidable treatment challenge when not amenable to endovascular treatment. In this paper, we illustrate the microsurgical management of such an aneurysm.

Spinal syringomyelia following subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Subarachnoid blood has been reported as a cause of chronic spinal arachnoiditis. Although syringomyelia has been thought to be caused by spinal arachnoiditis, reports of syringomyelia following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are very rare. We describe two patients with syringomyelia associated with chronic spinal arachnoiditis following SAH.

Fluorescence-guided surgery of metastatic brain tumors using fluorescein sodium.

We aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of fluorescence-guided surgery of metastatic brain tumors using fluorescein sodium. The study comprised 38 patients with metastatic brain tumors who underwent tumor resection after intravenous injection of fluorescein sodium. The local recurrence rate was investigated in 36 of the 38 patients, and compared for patients who had undergone surgery only and surgery plus whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT).

Cervical myelopathy caused by dropped head syndrome. Case report and review of the literature.

The authors present a rare case of cervical myelopathy caused by dropped head syndrome. This 68-year-old woman presented with her head hanging forward. After 1 month, she was admitted to the medical service because of head drop progression.
