Ureterocolic fistula is a rare phenomenon and cases secondary to diverticulitis are even rarer. We present a case of ureterocolic fistula secondary to diverticulitis of the sigmoid colon following laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy due to endometriomas. To our knowledge, this is the first case that occurred in a patient with gynecologic surgery.

Laparoscopy has become the standard surgery for the treatment of benign ovarian tumors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the appropriateness of laparoscopy for ovarian tumors, including those with malignant potential. A total of 487 patients with adnexal masses underwent laparoscopic surgery in Social Insurance Chukyo Hospital from January 2000 to December 2012.

Metastasis to the uterine cervix is a complication of breast cancer that is not commonly known. Detection of cervical metastasis before the diagnosis of the primary tumor is even rarer. The present report describes a case of a 52-year-old woman who had a large cervical tumor appearing as a leiomyoma.

Endometrial polyps are very common benign endometrial lesions, but their pathogenesis is poorly understood, except for a few studies indicating the possibility of benign stromal neoplasm. Although the histopathological diagnosis of endometrial polyp on a surgical specimen is straightforward, it is often difficult to differentiate endometrial polyp from endometrial hyperplasia on a biopsy or curettage specimen. Presently, there is no immunohistochemical marker helpful in this differential diagnosis.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens was used to transform the vegetative dikaryotic mycelium of Flammulina velutipes using a hygromycin B resistance gene as selectable marker. The gene coding for urogen III methyltransferase (cob) was introduced into F. velutipes dikaryotic cells.

Objectives: To identify an indicator that can predict tumor cell spread beyond the uterine corpus.

Methods: We studied clinicopathology and immunohistochemistry of 12 cases of PSTT. Two cases of epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT) were included as reference cases.

The matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) have been associated with ovarian tissue remodelling and development of ovarian tumours. With respect to ovarian cancer, the majority of previous studies were performed on serous and mucinous tumours, and little is known about clear cell carcinoma, which shows unique characteristics among ovarian cancers. In the present study, we assessed the differences in the levels of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 in the normal ovary and ovarian tumours of different histology, including clear cell carcinoma, using specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to investigate levels of placenta growth factor in the tissues and sera of the patients with gestational trophoblastic disease and to determine its usefulness for the treatment of gestational trophoblastic disease.

Study Design: Placenta growth factor concentrations were measured in the tissue homogenates of 12 normal placentas, 33 complete hydatidiform moles, and 6 gestational choriocarcinomas. Serum placenta growth factor levels were determined in 59 women with normal pregnant course, in 30 women with complete hydatidiform mole, in 36 women with persistent gestational trophoblastic disease, and 100 nonpregnant healthy volunteers.

To elucidate the involvement of type IV collagenases [matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9] and their tissue inhibitors (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) in the development of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD), we quantified their levels in hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma tissues using specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and the results were compared with those from normal first trimester placenta. Levels of pro-MMP-2 were increased in hydatidiform mole, and they were further elevated in choriocarcinoma. Levels of pro-MMP-9 in choriocarcinoma and those of TIMP-1 in both hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma were also increased.

A water-soluble three-layered oral mucosa-adhesive film made from hydroxypropyl cellulose containing dibucaine (0.25 mg of drug/cm(2)) was designed for alleviation of severe pain due to oral ulcers, caused by chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. We report two patients with constant severe pain ulcers treated with the dibucaine film.
