Aim: Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is known as a useful application for improving depressive symptoms or cognitive performance. Antidepressive effects by anodal tDCS over the left DLPFC are expected, but the neural mechanisms of these effects are still unclear. Further, in depression, reduced performance and left prefrontal hypofunction during the verbal fluency task (VFT) are generally known.

Recent near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) studies have shown frontotemporal hypofunction in depression by verbal fluency task, but the regions of impairment affecting respective depressive symptoms still remain unclear. We investigated frontotemporal function during word production task in depression with multi-channel NIRS.

Hydroxymethylcarbonyl (HMC) and hydroxyethylamine (HEA) isosteres were selected as the transition state mimics, and incorporated into the scissile site of the superior sequence covering the P4 to P1' sites (Glu-Ile-Thi-Thi(*)Nva; (*)denotes the cleavage site). Isosteres having different absolute configurations of the hydroxyl group were synthesized separately, and the effect of the configuration was evaluated.

At necropsy, dark red-colored mass with many nodular protuberances was found in the anterior mediastinal area. Histologically, the mass consisted of solid proliferation of neoplastic cells with spindle nuclei and cytoplasm and a few lymphocytes, which is separated by an abundant fibrous and adipose tissue.
