The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro inhibitory effects of gnetin C, a resveratrol dimer isolated from melinjo (Gnetum gnemon) seeds, on tyrosinase activity and melanin biosynthesis in murine B16 cells. The inhibitory activities of gnetin C and resveratrol were shown to be almost equal against tyrosinase and melanin biosynthesis in the cells.

We report that diclofenac, a NSAID, induces growth inhibition and apoptosis of HL-60 cells through modulation of mitochondrial functions regulated by reactive oxygen species (ROS), Akt, caspase-8, and Bid. ROS generation occurs in an early stage of diclofenac-induced apoptosis preceding cytochrome c release, caspase activation, and DNA fragmentation.
