In recent years, there has been increasing scientific interest in the use of tear film biomarkers in the diagnosis and management of dry eye disease (DED), owing to their potential important roles in the pathogenesis of ocular surface damage, as well as the technical feasibility of tear sample collection techniques. An Entrez PubMed search was conducted on March 2, 2019, to include papers investigating the use of tear film biomarkers in DED, and the results were classified according to whether the DED is associated with systemic inflammatory disease or not and further classified within each section according to the molecular nature of the biomarker for further discussion. Dry eyes is one of the most common complications after laser vision correction. Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) is a flapless procedure with a smaller corneal incision, less corneal nerves are transected during, making it theoretically less prone to dry eyes. Both SMILE and femtosecond-laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) induce a transient worsening in dry eye parameters, but there is evidence showing that SMILE holds promises to have fewer negative impacts on the ocular surface parameters and allow an earlier recovery.

Objectives: To evaluate recent studies on available and experimental therapies in preventing or minimizing corneal stromal scarring after injury.

Methods: We performed an Entrez PubMed literature search using keywords "cornea," "scarring," "haze," "opacity," "ulcer," "treatments," "therapies," "treatment complications," and "pathophysiology" resulting in 390 articles of which 12 were analyzed after filtering, based on English language and publication within 8 years, and curation for relevance by the authors.

Results: The 12 articles selected included four randomized control trials (RCTs) (two were double-blinded placebo-controlled RCTs, one was a prospective partially masked RCT, and one was an open-label RCT), two retrospective observational studies, and six laboratory-based studies including two studies having in vivo and in vitro experiments, one was in vivo study, one was ex vivo study, and the last two were in vitro studies.

Purpose: To determine the association between anterior corneal curvature and optical zone centration as well as its impact on aberration profiles in small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the signaling of growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor (GHRH-R) in the pathogenesis of pterygium and determine the apoptotic effect of GHRH-R antagonist on pterygium epithelial cells (PECs).

Methods: Fourteen samples of primary pterygium of grade T3 with size of corneal invasion ≥ 4 mm were obtained for investigation by histology, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, explant culture, and flow cytometry.
