Objective: This study aimed to clarify the features of -sensitized refractory asthma with bronchiectasis and determine the refractory phenotype in this population and ABPA.

Validation of a computed tomography diagnostic model for differentiating fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Background: The diagnosis of fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (fHP) from other interstitial lung diseases, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), is often difficult. This study aimed to examine computed tomography (CT) findings that were useful for differentiating between fHP and IPF and to develop and validate a radiological diagnostic model.

Methods: In this study, 246 patients (fHP, n = 104; IPF, n = 142) from two institutions were included and randomly divided into the test (n = 164) and validation (n = 82) groups (at a 2:1 ratio).

Methods: Medical records of 1308 patients admitted first time to the psychiatric emergency unit of Showa University Northern Yokohama Hospital between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Data collected included patient age, sex, outpatient treatment, living arrangements, disability pension status, diagnosis (based on ICD-10), and psychotropic medication use at admission (chlorpromazine equivalent dose, imipramine equivalent dose, diazepam equivalent dose, and number of mood stabilisers administered).

Two-stage hybrid surgical repair for aortic arch pathology with a shaggy aorta: a case report.

Background: The surgical treatment strategy for aortic arch pathology with a shaggy aorta must be determined on a case-by-case basis because of the risk of catastrophic complications, such as brain infarction and spinal cord injury.

Case Presentation: This report describes the surgical case of two saccular aneurysms of the arch and abdominal aorta associated with a shaggy aorta in a 63-year-old man who underwent total arch replacement and secondary thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Considering the risk of embolization during endovascular therapy, graft replacement for the abdominal aortic aneurysm was initially performed.

We report a case of simple pulmonary aspergilloma in which significant improvement was observed with pharmacological treatment alone, despite initially presenting with a large fungus ball.

Roles of autophagy in killing of mycobacterial pathogens by host macrophages - Effects of some medicinal plants.

Autophagy is a cellular stress-induced intracellular process, through which damaged cellular components are decomposed via lysosomal degradation. This process plays important roles in host innate immunity, particularly the elimination of intracellular pathogens inside host macrophages. A more detailed understanding of the roles of autophagic events in the effective manifestation of macrophagic antimycobacterial activity is needed.

Objective: The accurate assessment of the involvement of mandibular gingival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is essential for determining the extent of resection and is also useful for predicting lymph node metastasis and prognosis. In acute clinical practice, it is challenging to decide whether to provide intravenous antipsychotic treatment in some cases due to the lack of objective biomarkers of psychiatric symptoms.

: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the head and neck is generally slow-growing but has a high potential for local recurrence and metastasis to distant organs. There is currently no standard pharmacological treatment for recurrent/metastatic (R/M) ACC, and there are cases in which immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are administered for ACC according to head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, the efficacy of ICIs for ACC remains unclear, and the predictive biomarkers need to be elucidated.

Unilateral acute eosinophilic pneumonia on the operative side: A case 9 years after lung lobectomy.

The typical clinical manifestation of acute eosinophilic pneumonia is acute onset of respiratory symptoms due to smoking or medication use, accompanied by bilateral ground-glass opacity with consolidations on chest radiography. However, differential diagnosis with acute eosinophilic pneumonia should not be excluded in cases of unilateral pneumonia of postoperative lung.
