In children, the causes of cerebral infarction are varied, and accurate diagnosis and treatment are imperative. An early school-age boy was brought to our hospital due to seizures and impaired consciousness. He was diagnosed with cerebral infarction due to primary central nervous system vasculitis (PCNSV) based on increased inflammatory response and circumferential vessel wall thickening in his right middle cerebral artery.

A toddler girl was diagnosed with intra-abdominal simple cyst in the splenic flexure at the gestational period. Due to a severe fever that persisted for 6 days, she was admitted to the emergency room. The diagnosis of intraperitoneal cyst infection was made after contrast-enhanced CT revealed an enlarged cyst and a heterogeneous contrast effect on the cyst wall.

Purpose: The human ankle-foot complex possesses a passive range of motion (ROM) through changes in tibiocalcaneal ( θcal ) and foot arch ( θarch ) angles. Based on the anatomical linkage between the Achilles tendon (AT) and plantar fascia (PF), we hypothesized that AT and PF with different mechanical properties conjointly modulate the passive ROM of the human ankle-foot complex. We examined the association of AT and PF stiffness with passive ankle-foot ROM and further addressed differences between sexes.

Advantages of monitoring rT3 and dividing LT3 dose in the treatment of consumptive hypothyroidism associated with infantile hepatic hemangioma.

Objectives: In consumptive hypothyroidism associated with infantile hepatic hemangiomas (IHH), elevated reverse triiodothyronine (rT3) is known due to elevated D3. This report shows that rT3 is a new indicator of IHH progression and that three divided doses of LT3 per day were more effective than a single dose.

Case Presentation: A 23 day-old boy was diagnosed with diffuse IHH and severe hypothyroidism with high rT3.

In some neutrophilic folliculitis, such as in patients with acne and hidradenitis suppurativa, follicular hyperkeratosis is also observed. Neutrophilic folliculitis is often induced and/or exacerbated by a high-fat diet (HFD).

Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is an important human pathogen worldwide. Although serotype O157 is currently the most dominant and important EHEC strain, serotypes O26, O111, O91, O103 and O121 are also recognized as serious pathogens that affect public health. EHEC outbreaks often occur in nurseries and elderly care facilities.

Leptospirosis is considered underdiagnosed because of its nonspecific presentation and lack of proper understanding of its epidemiology. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. However, few data are available on confirmed leptospirosis cases in children in industrialized countries.

Case of Infantile Legionella Pneumonia After Bathing in Reheated and Reused Water.

A 1-month-old girl developed respiratory failure due to bilateral interstitial pneumonia after bathing in reheated and reused water. A molecular test for sputum and an environmental culture detected Legionella pneumophila serotype 1. This is the first report of infantile legionellosis contracted from a bathtub at home.

[Influence of Stx2 Subtype on Bacteriological Identification of Outbreaks of EHEC O157: H- Infections in Saitama City].

In 2013, two outbreaks of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) occurred in Saitama city. According to reports from each of the medical institutions that detected the EHEC isolates, the isolates seemed to differ in their production of Vero Toxin (VT / Shiga Toxin: Stx) since one isolate produced only Stx1 and the other produced both Stx1 and Stx2. However, a patient survey conducted by a public health center revealed that common foodstuffs had been consumed in both outbreaks.
