We present the case of a 47-year-old woman with a bulky, nascent necrotic myoma, which at first glance appeared to be a malignant process in the cervix. It caused significant retention of urine due to compression of the bladder and ureters, hydronephrosis and deterioration of renal function. A fully developed picture of the "bulge syndrome" dominated - lymphedema of the lower limbs and lower abdomen, pain in the lower abdomen, constipation, secondary secondary urinary infection, and paradoxical ischuria.

A new type of axially chiral sulfonic acid was developed. The synthesis is based on cheap commercially available materials and a practical method for optical resolution via diastereomeric salt formation, which can provide both enantiomers. Eleven benzoimidazolylnaphthalenesulfonic acids were prepared and four of them were isolated as pure and stable atropisomers.

Article Synopsis
  • Therapy for FLT3-positive acute myeloid leukemia is challenging, even with new kinase inhibitors available; strategies are being developed to enhance treatment effectiveness.
  • Researchers created new compounds called 2,7,9-trisubstituted 8-oxopurines as FLT3 inhibitors, showing that certain chemical groups impact their effectiveness and selectivity for FLT3.
  • The most promising compound inhibited FLT3 autophosphorylation and affected downstream signaling pathways in lab cell lines and in a mouse model, indicating potential for real-world treatment applications.

Vertebrate primary cilium is a Hedgehog signaling center but the extent of its involvement in other signaling systems is less well understood. This report delineates a mechanism by which fibroblast growth factor (FGF) controls primary cilia. Employing proteomic approaches to characterize proteins associated with the FGF-receptor, FGFR3, we identified the serine/threonine kinase intestinal cell kinase (ICK) as an FGFR interactor.

A general and efficient synthesis of 4-substituted-1H-pyrazole-3,5-diamines was developed to access derivatives with an aryl, heteroaryl, or styryl group, which are otherwise relatively difficult to prepare. The first step is based on the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction utilizing the XPhos Pd G2 precatalyst. The coupling reactions of 4-bromo-3,5-dinitro-1H-pyrazole with the electron-rich/deficient or sterically demanding boronic acids enabled the production of the corresponding dinitropyrazoles.

[Purpose] Low back pain is a pervasive problem in modern societies. Physical rehabilitation in treatment of low back pain should reduce pain, muscle tension and restore spine stability and balance. The INFINITY® rehabilitation method that is based on a figure of eight movement pattern was proved to be effective in low back pain treatment.

Objective: We compared the incidence and type of levator ani avulsion diagnosed by translabial ultrasound evaluation in primiparous women six months after vacuum-assisted or spontaneous vaginal delivery.

Material And Methods: This retrospective observational study was performed between January 2011 and December 2013. Primiparous women six months after vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery and after spontaneous vaginal delivery underwent translabial ultrasound evaluation.

[Purpose] To evaluate the efficacy of our special rehabilitation method for patients with low back pain (LBP). [Subjects and Methods] All participants (n=33) received at least five individual 30-minute therapy sessions per week using the INFINITY method(®) and six group therapy sessions per week in a gymnasium and swimming pool, each lasting 30 minutes and including the INFINITY method(®). The treatment lasted between four to seven weeks.

The position and degree of eruption of permanent central incisors within the premaxilla were measured on x-ray films obtained in 102 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate and in 52 normal individuals aged 5 years. The patients were subdivided according to sex and to the method of surgical repair (bone grafting or periosteal flap surgery). Individuals with rotated incisors were assessed separately.

The study is based on an anthropometric assessment of X-ray films obtained in 22 adult males with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate treated during childhood with primary bone grafts and in 32 males with the same type of cleft without bone grafting. In the series with bone grafts was recorded a more marked reduction of maxillary depth associated with a larger retrusion than in the series without bone grafts. This deviation was therapeutically compensated by a larger displacement of the mandible backwards which contributes to the increase of mandibular posterior rotation.

On dental casts obtained in 28 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate treated with primary periosteal flap surgery were investigated the length and width parameters of the dentoalveolar arch of the upper and lower jaws. The patients were examined prior to palate surgery and subsequently in adulthood. The series of controls includes individuals without clefts matched in age.
