To navigate different environments, an animal must be able to adapt its locomotory gait to its physical surroundings. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, between swimming in water and crawling on surfaces, adapts its locomotory gait to surroundings that impose approximately 10,000-fold differences in mechanical resistance. Here we investigate this feat by studying the undulatory movements of C.

Glass-capillary microfluidics is used to generate monodisperse double emulsion templates. We show that the high uniformity in size and shape of the templates are maintained in the final phospholipid vesicles after a solvent removal step.

This work focuses on studying the binding of plasmid DNA (pDNA) with a series of poly(glycoamidoamine)s (PGAAs) that have previously been shown to deliver pDNA in vitro in an efficient and nontoxic manner. Herein, we examine the PGAA-pDNA binding energetics, binding-linked protonation, and electrostatic contribution to the free energy with isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).

However, using these dispersions requires some knowledge of and control over their colloidal properties. Measuring interparticle interactions between vesicles should allow framing the problem in terms of Smoluchowski kinetic models and consequently anticipating time-dependent aggregation and coalescence for the dispersions.
