Background: The presence at diagnosis, or development of, colorectal peritoneal metastases (CPM) is common in colorectal cancer. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) show promising results in selected patients with CPM. The current study aimed to describe oncologic outcomes of patients with CPM, focusing on recurrence patterns and risk factors for adverse events.

The outcomes of patients who gastrectomy over a twenty-year period in a high-volume unit are reported.
Methods: All patients requiring gastrectomy to achieve CCR for appendiceal PMP between 2000 and 2020 were reviewed.
Introduction: Right hemicolectomy (RHC) remains the treatment standard for goblet cell adenocarcinoma (GCA), despite limited evidence supporting survival benefit. This study aims to explore factors influencing surgical management and survival outcomes among patients treated with RHC or appendicectomy using NCRAS (UK) and SEER (USA) data.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using 998 (NCRAS) and 1703 (SEER) cases.
Introduction: Optimal management of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is by cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), which can achieve 20-year disease-free, and overall survival. There is limited information on the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of PMP survivors beyond five years. We report longitudinal HRQOL in patients with PMP of appendiceal origin up to 17-years after their CRS and HIPEC in 2003-2004.

Purified and standardized human fibrinogen concentrates (HFCs) represent reliable alternatives. Full cryoprecipitate characterization is required to inform selection of an appropriate fibrinogen source for supplementation therapy.

Retrospective review of cases treated between 2000 and 2021. A literature review using MEDLINE and Google Scholar databases was performed.

Stratifying affected patients on admission to hospital may help identify those who at are risk of developing severe disease early on. Rotational Thromboelastometry (ROTEM) is a point of care test that can be used to measure abnormal coagulation and calprotectin is a measure of inflammation.

Uncertainty about the relationship between age and tumour biology makes patient selection challenging particularly when reported procedure related morbidity is high and impact on survival outcomes unknown. The UK and Ireland Colorectal Peritoneal Metastases Registry was reviewed to assess the influence of age on efficacy of CRS and HIPEC.

The main contra-indications preventing wide-spread use of EPIC are reports of an increased postoperative morbidity with no clear evidence of oncological benefit. This paper reports a single high volume institution experience with EPIC over a 25-year period.

The metastatic peritoneal disease grade can occasionally be different from the primary appendix tumor. This analysis aimed to report outcomes from a high-volume center in patients with pathological discordance.

Objective: To provide guidance on setting up and running an optimised telementoring service that can be integrated into current validated curricula. We define a standardised approach to training candidates in skill acquisition via telepresence technologies.
Aim: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) for peritoneal malignancy has traditionally included umbilical excision with no published evidence on the incidence of umbilical involvement. The primary aim of this work was to determine the incidence of umbilical involvement in patients undergoing CRS for peritoneal malignancy of appendiceal origin. The secondary aim was to investigate the relationship of umbilical involvement with prior surgery affecting the umbilicus, such as diagnostic laparoscopy and midline laparotomy.

A 7-year-old girl was diagnosed with abdominal DSRCT with peritoneal and liver metastases. After six cycles of chemotherapy she obtained a partial response, including almost complete resolution of the two liver metastases.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of all known patients receiving HPN at any time between January 2012 and the 31st March 2020 registered in a high volume peritoneal malignancy surgical centre database.
Results: The median duration of HPN for all patients was 309.
Background: Perforated epithelial appendiceal tumors are uncommon and can give rise to pseudomyxoma peritonei. Pseudomyxoma peritonei is rare, almost always of appendiceal origin, and presents in various ways relevant to abdominal surgeons.
Objective: The aim of this study was to report the mode of presentation of pseudomyxoma peritonei of appendiceal origin in patients treated in a high-volume UK peritoneal malignancy center.
Background: Patients with peritoneal malignancy treated by cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are prone to develop postoperative paralytic ileus (POI). POI is associated with significant increase in both morbidity and mortality. CRS and HIPEC commonly result in prolonged POI (PPOI).

The aim of this study was the development and validation of a standard framework for the appraisal of surgical videos submitted for presentation and publication, the LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational GuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS) video assessment tool.
Methods: An international committee identified items for inclusion in the LAP-VEGaS video assessment tool and finalised the marking score utilising Delphi methodology.
Background: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is associated with excessive bleeding and acquired fibrinogen deficiency. Maintaining plasma fibrinogen may support hemostasis.
Objectives: To compare hemostatic efficacy and safety of human fibrinogen concentrate (HFC) vs cryoprecipitate as fibrinogen sources for bleeding patients with acquired fibrinogen deficiency undergoing PMP CRS.
Background: To analyse the duration of parenteral nutrition (PN) in patients treated for peritoneal malignancy with cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) over a 2 year period at a single UK National referral centre.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of prospective data for all patients (n=321) who underwent CRS and HIPEC for peritoneal malignancy at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute Basingstoke between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2015.Duration of PN was compared between primary tumour site (appendix, colorectal, mesothelioma and other); completeness of CRS (complete CRS vs.
Context: As the role of robot-assisted surgery continues to expand, development of standardised and validated training programmes is becoming increasingly important.
Objective: To provide guidance on an optimised "train-the-trainer" (TTT) structured educational programme for surgical trainers, in which delegates learn a standardised approach to training candidates in skill acquisition. We aim to describe a TTT course for robotic surgery based on the current published literature and to define the key elements within a TTT course by seeking consensus from an expert committee formed of key opinion leaders in training.
Background: Surgical trainers consider laparoscopic videos as a useful teaching aid to maximize trainees' learning and skill development given the backdrop of time constraints and productivity demands. Aim of this study is to assess the current use of laparoscopic videos amongst surgical trainees in the United Kingdom.
Methods: A steering committee of 15 experienced laparoscopic trainers from 8 countries developed a survey on the use of laparoscopic videos by surgical trainees.
Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a clinical syndrome characterized by gross mucinous ascites originating from a disseminated intraperitoneal neoplasm. Although typically confined to the abdomen, mortality is high if untreated. Biomarkers, including genetic mutation profiles, may aid treatment selection and decision making.
