Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates shoulder pain and MRI findings in adult Nigerians, noting the scarcity of data on this demographic.
  • Over 100 adult patients were analyzed, revealing that common conditions include supraspinatus tendinopathy, acromioclavicular joint arthropathy, and subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis.
  • Findings suggest that shoulder abnormalities are prevalent regardless of gender, with specific pathologies highlighted as significant among participants.

Article Synopsis
  • Knee joint injuries are common globally, and MRI is an effective tool for diagnosing these disorders; a study in Lagos, Nigeria, aimed to analyze MRI findings and clinical presentations of knee abnormalities in adults.
  • The study involved 158 adult patients (92 males and 66 females) with a high prevalence of previous trauma; prevalent pathologies included joint effusion and various meniscal and ligament injuries, with male participants showing more ACL abnormalities.
  • The study found no significant difference in abnormalities between the right and left knees, highlighting the diverse nature of knee disorders, especially the correlation between ACL injuries and other joint issues.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP) affects 10% of pregnancies globally and includes conditions like chronic hypertension and preeclampsia, leading to serious health risks for both mothers and infants.
  • - A study examining brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (BAFMD) showed that women with HDP had significantly lower BAFMD compared to normotensive pregnant and nonpregnant women, though no major differences were found between HDP subgroups.
  • - While BAFMD decreased with gestational age, it proved to be a poor indicator for HDP, with body mass index (BMI) identified as a better predictor for the condition.

Introduction: Benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are common in elderly men. This study aimed to correlate the Doppler resistive indices of prostatic arteries with the severity of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and prostate volume in men with concomitant BPE and T2DM.

Material And Methods: Fifty men with T2DM and BPE (BPE-DM) as cases and 50 age-matched men with BPE but no T2DM (BPE-ND) as controls were enrolled.

Objectives: To study the relationship between sonographically measured intravesical prostate protrusion and international prostate symptoms score (IPSS), as well as prostate volume, in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia at a single health facility.

Materials And Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study of one hundred men (age >40 years) diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Their International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS) was assessed using the standardised IPSS instrument.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of upper renal tract obstructive changes in women with uterine fibroids using ultrasonography (USG).

Methods: We enrolled 140 women with uterine fibroids and performed USG of the uterus and upper renal tract with full and empty urinary bladders, respectively. The number of fibroid nodules and the uterine volume were determined.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Tolulope Adebayo Okedere"

  • - Tolulope Adebayo Okedere's recent research primarily focuses on the application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in assessing musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in Nigerian populations, highlighting common pathologies such as shoulder and knee injuries.
  • - In addition to musculoskeletal studies, Okedere has explored cardiovascular aspects related to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, investigating brachial artery flow-mediated dilation as an indicator of maternal health risks.
  • - Okedere's work also includes studies on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men, evaluating correlations between Doppler ultrasound findings and lower urinary tract symptoms, further contributing to understanding urological health in the context of diabetes and aging.
